The "Cult" Television section of the BBC web site officially closes today. The BBC - Cult Television site had been the home of the official BBC Doctor Who site as well as other 'cult' TV shows such as Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy among others. If you visit the site now you will be treated to a farewell animation and music which includes K-9 and closes with the closing cue of the Blake's Seven theme (I am not sure how much longer you will have a chance to see this).
Doctor Who fans fear not, while it means goodbye to the BBC Cult TV site where the DW site was located, the BBC is not trashing the DW site (come on, they learned their lesson destroying all those old episodes from the '60s)... The DW site is not closing, instead, it now has a new URL address. The old URL to the 'cult' section still works, it will simply redirect you to the new location. The new URL is a little simpler in fact, it is http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/
So it is "goodnight" to the BBC Cult Television section of their web site. Does this means that Doctor Who is no longer considered "cult TV"? -- Well, being such a hot show now with it's revival, it's part of the BBC current line up. The reason for closing the Cult TV site according to the BBC is that it wasn't generating enough traffic there (this must mean aside from the DW section).
If you want any desktop wallpaper images from HHGTG or Thunderbirds, etc. (any show site that was hosted by the BBC Cult TV section) grab them now because we are not sure how much longer they will be available.
