  According to the Guardian Unlimited, the BBC may be selling programing such as Doctor Who among others abroad through the internet. In addition, for the first time it may serve up advertising on its web site to boost revenues.
"It's something we've been mandated to do by our charter. It's now become possible because we have internet rights that we could charge for, and we now have the technology," said Ashley Highfield, director of new media and technology.
