Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith Returns to Doctor Who!

We can confirm the rumours that Elisabeth Sladen is to be returning to Doctor Who in the next series (season). BBC News is reporting that the character, Sarah Jane who served as a companion for Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker Doctors in the '70s is returning to the show along side of David Tennant (the 10th Doctor) and Billie Piper (Rose Tyler). Elisabeth Sladen originally appeared in the series from 1973 to 1976. She returned as Sarah Jane Smith in both a spin-off pilot K9 and Company as well as the 20th anniversary special The Five Doctors in 1983. Although Sladen will be returning, rest assured that Billie Piper will remain in the entire second series (season) despite rumours stating the contrary.

"We plan to make series two even bigger and better and challenge the viewers' imaginations like never before," Billie Piper stated.

The article also reveals The Doctor's "striking" new outfit which consists of a striped suit, trenchcoat and trainers.

Additionally, Anthony Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Adam Garcia (Coyote Ugly) will make an appearance, as well as confirming that Stephen Fry will be writing an episode (as previously reported here).

Possible spoiler warning here... it is also revealed that the popular character Harriet Jones played by Penelope Wilton will be returning, and (drum-roll here) the Cybermen are set to return as well.

Russell T. Davies, lead writer and Executive Producer states, "We were delighted and honoured by the first series' success, and we can promise new thrills, new laughs, new heartbreak and some terrifying new aliens."

Groovy! Should be good fun. She was always my favourite companion (apart
    from Rose of course!).

I'm glad that someone like Elizabeth Sladen is coming back to the show. I would love it if she would actually ride in the Tardis again for a little bit, because it would be the first time in the shows history that a companion has come back as a companion with a different Doctor (so not counting the 5 and 2 Doctors). And this also makes me appreciate Doctor Who for being able to do this, since its really the only show in the history of television that could bring back a character over 20 years since their last appearence, and just about 30 years since they were a regular in the cast.

    This is a spoiler warning.

Apparently, Elizabeth Sladen is only going to in one episode next season, episode 3 entitle school reunion. Its also the same episode that Anthony Stewart Head will be in, and he'll be playing the Headmaster of the school.
