We can confirm the rumours that Elisabeth Sladen is to be returning to Doctor Who in the next series (season). BBC News is reporting that the character, Sarah Jane who served as a companion for Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker Doctors in the '70s is returning to the show along side of David Tennant (the 10th Doctor) and Billie Piper (Rose Tyler). Elisabeth Sladen originally appeared in the series from 1973 to 1976. She returned as Sarah Jane Smith in both a spin-off pilot K9 and Company as well as the 20th anniversary special The Five Doctors in 1983. Although Sladen will be returning, rest assured that Billie Piper will remain in the entire second series (season) despite rumours stating the contrary.

Possible spoiler warning here... it is also revealed that the popular character Harriet Jones played by Penelope Wilton will be returning, and (drum-roll here) the Cybermen are set to return as well.
Russell T. Davies, lead writer and Executive Producer states, "We were delighted and honoured by the first series' success, and we can promise new thrills, new laughs, new heartbreak and some terrifying new aliens."
