General NewsGreetings to all you hard-working Who afficionados.

As an only occasional Doctor Who, I'm not sure how interesting this will be to you, or indeed if this is common knowledge. In any case, I was re-reading Douglas Adams fantastic book: "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" the other day and realised that Doug had clearly purloined plot sections and whole characters from Tom Baker-era episodes he must have been involved in as co-writer. Specifically, Shada and City of Death are instantly noticeable, perhaps others as well.

Whether Douglas was just subconsciously recycling ideas, or deliberately referencing his earlier work (more likely I suspect), I couldn't say.

Anyway, its a fantastic book which everyone should read at least twice, even if they don't see the Doctor Who connection.

Keep up the good work, and think about perhaps reviewing an old episode in its entirety each week, including a plot synopsis to jog the memories of non-hardcore fans (Troughton was clearly the best doctor).

Cheers.

John O'Neill, York. UK

I'd heard that the plots for the Dirk Gently books were made up mostly
of recycled Doctor Who plots, some of which made it into the show and some
that didn't.
