John Barrowman to Tie the Knot

    Doctor Who News

Actor John Barrowman (Captain Jack) will be tying the knot in a civil union with his partner of ten years, Scott Gill, an architect. They are planning a "low-key" affair with no ceremony, he has told The Sun reportedly. The two are hoping to have a child through a surrogate mother, the daughter of a very old friend.

John Barrowman joined Doctor Who playing the character Captain Jack Harkness in the 2005 series and is now slated to head up his own spin-off series Torchwood on BBC 3 in the summer of 2006.

We wish John and Scott well in their union and starting their new family together.

    Fantastic Stuff!

I hope they are both very happy. We look forward to Torchwood!

It's nice that after ten years together they can have their commitment and love for each other officially recognised.

    Update:

In an update to this article, John Barrowman expanded on his desire for a child and being that we are on the cusp of his new series Torchwood debut on BBC Three, the press and media has been having a field day with this story for some reason.

London's Daily Mirror reports: "We are talking about whether we have our own children or do we adopt," Barrowman says. "We've thought about adopting an older child, maybe a pre-teen. There are so many kids out there who need a good home."

It seems like a dozen other papers around the globe has picked up on this and are reporting it as well now. It is a bit odd since it is not the first time a gay couple has adopted, it is not even the first time one of them is a "celebrity" -- It was originally reported here and elsewhere back in December 2005, now just because Torchwood is about to premiere, this is news? I suspect if his partner was named Susan instead of Scott, this would not be making the rounds it is has been lately.

According to Daily Mirror: Barrowman said there is no reason why gay couples should not have children, "I say p**s off to people who say gay men and women shouldn't have children."

"They have a lot to offer. It doesn't matter if it's two men or two women. If it's a loving household then it should be allowed."

I couldn't have said it better myself, John!

    Cheers,
    Louis
