I am saddened and shocked... I had not known he was battling cancer. I the privilege of spending the afternoon with Gary Downie along with John Nathan-Turner during a joint book signing appearance in Manhattan in the '80s. They were both were very interesting and friendly.
What is also sad is that at least I knew the memory of JNT... that is JNT's experiences and feelings while working on Doctor Who would be kept alive through Gary. An example of that would be the two-part interview with Gary Downie that appeared in Doctor Who Monthly a couple of years ago.
It is always sad when we loose people that were involved in the series, and we have been loosing many that had worked in the series in the 60's and 70's now... but it seems even more so with folks involved in the show in the 80's because it still seems so recent.
