Who's having Monster Fun on Merseyside

    Doctor Who NewsHi All

I thought you might be interested to read the following article which appeared in my local paper - The Wirral News - today. For those of you who don't know it's location, Wirral is just across the River Mersey from Liverpool. Since I work in tourism, I hope to get a suitable photograph (and more information) to accompany the article soon.

    --------

WIRRAL SPACEPORT TO HOST DOCTOR WHO EVENT

Calling all Doctor Who fans! Wirral is set to be invaded by the monsters currently wreaking havoc for the Time Lord (played by David Tennant) and Rose Tyler in the second series of Doctor Who now showing on BBC One.

Spaceport, located in the Seacombe Ferry Terminal Building on Wirral, has fought off competition from some of the country's biggest and best museums and venues to host the spectacular Doctor Who Close Up exhibition. It opens in September and will feature many of the exciting new props, monsters and costumes from the second series.

But the invasion of Spaceport has already begun - with the arrival of a six foot tall robot called Zu-Zana!*

Cllr Mark Dowd, chairman of Merseytravel, which owns and operates Spaceport and the Mersey Ferries, said: "Spaceport is an ideal home for Doctor Who and we know the exhibition will be a huge success. I would personally like to welcome Zu-Zana* as the advance party and she will remain at Spaceport awaiting the arrival of the main exhibition.

"We can't give too much away at the moment but I can say it will include many characters from the latest TV series and some that haven't yet been seen on TV."

The robot Zu-Zana* is a one-off original character from the first season of Doctor Who, which starred Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper and which has just won the BAFTA Television Award for Best Drama Series.

Neil Scales, Chief Executive and Director General of Merseytravel, added "Winning the opportunity to stage the exhibition is a major boost to the programme and will draw in vistors from around the country."

    * - Zu-Zana was one of the two female robots that Captain Jack destroyed in Bad Wolf

Fantastic! Something for those of us living in the North! I guess I know where I will be driving the children to in September!
