Are you sure it wasn't a Millingdale Ice Cream truck???

Seriously, though there were Blue Peter "design a Doctor Who monster competitions", according to the latest Doctor Who Confidential, none have ever been featured in a Doctor Who story before. I don't know how definitive that is, but I guess I was lucky that it took you guys so long to release this episode, that I could have an answer.

In regards to the monster contest from the 60's, there was never actually an
entry used in the show. It was rumored for years that the Krotons were based on
a design from a contest, but I guess someone was just looking for an excuse.

There was a contest Troughton judged where the winner was a steel octopus
(picture a silver bowling ball with a clown face on a tripod.) Hmm. Come to think
of it, it would have been better than the Krotons.

Great Podcast. With respect to the Idiot's Lantern, I think that James had a good point (i.e its one for the kiddies). I found the episode so, so for a variety of reasons, why were the faces missing? Why did they come back? How do you build a VCR out of valves (I work in IC manufacturer)? Where do you get the correct speed coded electric motors? Where did the Betamax Tape come from and more especially how come it was rewound ready to record - in my experience this never happens? My children however thought the episode was fantastic - much better than any other this series (with the exception of Impossible Planet/Satan Pit which I am told "is the best Doctor Who story EVER").

With the World Cup running I've only just finsihed listening to Podshock 42 this afternoon. Thanks for the positive review of "The Idiot's Lantern". There were a lot of negative comments out there after it was broadcast so it was nice to hear some aprpeciation from James for this story. It was slower paced but creepy and absolutely beautifully shot.

Louis, maybe you recognize Maureen Lipman from the sitcom "Agony" from the early 80s that also starred Chunky Gilmore and Boba Fett?

James, I don't think anyone needs to apologize for Big Brother but if anyone does it's not you or the british people as the original bit brother was not English but Dutch.

Finally, the BBC confirmed that David Tennant would be the 10th Doctor on April 16th, 2005, the same day that "Aliens of London" aired. However, the BBC did mention that Tennant might take over in their original Eccleston leaving press release on March 31st, 2005.
