DW Reviews Starring Sylvester McCoy as the 7th Doctor.

“For Sale: One Doctor. Excellent condition. Six previous owners. Only 900 years on the clock.”

“Welcome to Valhalla. Capital of Calypso; Jupiter’s premier Moon.”

It seems that the Doctor has a change of career in mind but all is not what it seems in more ways than one. This is a return for Big Finish; a return to the four part story and a return to a more traditional story type for the 7th Doctor. This play was commissioned nearly two years ago which is why the new format has been abandoned here and why the storyline for this incarnation of the 7th Doctor is not as dark as has been the norm for the last several plays.

Written by Marc Platt (Ghost Light, Spare Parts) this companionless play appears to have the Doctor entering a job centre looking for a new line of work but the Doctor has information (gathered in the future) that suggests the population of this moon will soon but put on sale; as slaves or as food and of course he cannot help but try to stop it.

As usual with Doctor Who plays; it is a story of people interfering in things that they really should have left alone and then finding that those things often come back to bite them in the behind

With an excellent supporting cast lead by Susannah York and a great soundtrack there is very little wrong with this story. It holds just the right amount of curiosity and suspense to slowly reel the listener in

On the whole the story held together quite well and on listening there was the old sense of this being the Doctor which we knew so well from the television series.
