Big Finish Audio #65: The Juggernauts

DW ReviewsWARNING: The following contrains spoilers.

    Released: January 2005
    Doctor: Sixth, Colin Baker
    Companion: Melanie "Mel" Bush

Brief Synopsis: The Doctor and Mel are seperated in space. Mel ends up on a mining colony on the planet Lethe, and is employed by the mysterious Professor Vasso. The Doctor is being held captive on a Dalek spacecraft. The Doctor soon figures out that Vasso is really Davros in disguise. Davros has been working on something that is even more powerful than the Daleks, machines he calls the Juggernauts. The Doctor knows that he must save Mel from Davros...but is it possible that Mel doesn't want to be saved?

My Thoughts: I've always had a special place in my mind for the Colin Baker Doctor. He may not be the greatest Doctor ever, and he is almost always a jerk, but he was the first Doctor that I had ever seen an episode of. Coincidentally, this was the first Big Finish Doctor Who Audio I've ever listened to. I've ALWAYS loved the Daleks, and found Davros quite interesting as well. Part of what makes this story interesting is, the Doctor and a few select people know it's Davros right off from the start, but everyone else thinks he's Vasso. Quite intresting, in my opinion. I also thought that this story gave a lot of development to Mel's character, which is something we didn't really get to see in the TV show. This is definately a must-listen for Colin Baker & Mel fans out there.

My Rating: 4 and a half TARDIS groans

a deeply enjoyable story where Davros comes across as truly likable and Mel is given things to do other than scream - not as good as the story called "Davros" with which it shares some themes but that can be forgiven by the moral arguments put forward by Davros the great Dalek hunter. and the mechanoids turn this into a great Fanfest.

it does sag in the middle but for such a short time that its instantly forgivable
