It has been announced that Matt Smith will be taking the wheel or console controls of the TARDIS after David Tennant leaves the role of the Doctor in Doctor Who. As predicted this should be happening next year in 2010. At 26 years of age, he is now the youngest actor to take the part, a position previously held by Peter Davison.

The Gallifreyan Embassy welcomes Matt to the role as the 11th Doctor.

I guess we'll all learn more about him over the next few months. I think it's exciting that someone has been picked.

And with this official announcement, it's probably time for a "Matt Smith era"
section on the forum, isn't it, Louis?

You know, I am so constantly outwitting the opposition, I tend to forget the delights and satisfaction of the gentle art of fisticuffs.

Even after the interview I can't help thinking "Emo Doctor" I am worried for the direction it is headed. Its hard enough for someone in his 30s' to play like he has lived a grand. DLing Ruby and the Smoke to have a look see.

What is it with the surnames 'Smith' & 'Jones'

He was OK in 'Ruby in the Smoke' - so let's hope he is GREAT for Doctor Who.

    Cheers, daveac

OK, so he already played by the side of Billie Piper, so
can we get some more Rose stories?

I didn't like how the confidential rushed through the later
doctors. It would have been nice to see an hour special

They hinted that Matt had to "catch up" with the previous
DW stories in order to understand what kind of "man" he
will make the Dr. He's so young that he probably only knows
the series from its rebirth with David.
