    Doctor Who News

We have been expecting this announcement for some time now. Today the BBC has announced that Steven Moffat will be taking the reins from Russell T Davies becoming the Executive Producer and Lead Writer for Doctor Who starting with the 2010 series (what they are calling "series 5"). This announcement comes right on the heels of of the news of Steven Moffat winning a BAFTA for his Doctor Who story Blink.

Many viewers are familiar with Steven Moffat writing for Doctor Who since it's return to television three years ago. With such celebrated stories such as The Empty Child and The Doctor Dancers in 2005. Followed by The Girl in the Fireplace in 2006 in which Moffat was recognized with a Hugo Award. As previously mentioned he has just been awarded a BAFTA for Blink in last year's series.

Congratulations to Steven Moffat, we are sure that our beloved series will be in good hands. This is a position that Moffat has been seeking for some time now. "My entire career has been a Secret Plan to get this job. I applied before but I got knocked back 'cos the BBC wanted someone else. Also I was seven," stated Moffat.

Ken, you mention in this Aftershock about keeping things in perspective, but when you get down to it, RTD's writing, imo, has been ridiculously uneven, and on top of that, some of the concepts RTD has allowed make me want to scream (much of LotTL, for example).

I'd also think it's premature to assume that Moffat is going to step into the job in the same manner as RTD. For example, while RTD has written several episodes a season, Moffat may stick to just one or two.

To be bluntly honest, Moffat is a much better writer than RTD, and I expect that to be reflected in the scripts down the road after Moffat takes over.
