Today, BBC Wales made an announcement of three new key appointments to its production of Doctor Who as the series begins its transition to the Matt Smith era.
Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead producer, Tracie Simpson and Torchwood: Children of Earth series producer, Peter Bennett have been made producers to the flagship show.
Ashes to Ashes (the spin-off/sequel drama series of Life on Mars) producer Beth Willis will join Piers Wenger and Lead Writer Steven Moffat as an Executive Producer for the series.
BBC Wales stated that Willis will work closely with Bennett and Simpson on the day to day running of the series as she works on a range of other BBC Wales dramas.
Pre-production begins next month and shooting is slated to begin late summer in and around the Cardiff area.
"Beth and Tracie and Pete aren't the A Team, they're the people the A Team call. Tracie and Pete are the backstage stars of Doctor Who and having them on board as producers isn't just the best possible news for Matt Smith's first series, it's a massive relief. And Beth Willis, fresh from the brilliant Ashes To Ashes, is joining Piers and I as an executive so finally there'll be someone to wear the trousers," Steven Moffat had stated in a BBC press release.
The Gallifreyan Embassy and Doctor Who: Podshock wish the three all the best in their new roles and are eagerly anticipating yet another new era of Doctor Who which this new production team will be ushering in now.
