Back by popular demand, our Second Second Life Meet Up on Saturday, the 16th of May All Day with a special event from 1pm to 4pm SL time (PDT) . Hosted in the land of Katrina and New Gallifrey.

No matter where you live in the world, you can join us live in the virtual world of Second Life as long as you have broadband internet access (and a capable computer, visit the Second Life website for details on requirements to use their client software). It is free to use and it enables us all to come together without the geographic borders and distance we face in our "first life."

We first had a virtual meet up way back in November 2006 which turned out to be hugely successful and popular. Since that time, we have been asked when we would organize another virtual meet up. Now is that time... Saturday the 16th of May to be exact. We are planning a special event taking place at a time to be announced soon, the meet up is all day long. Doctor Who: Podshock hosts will be on hand for the special event and we will on and off throughout the day on the 16th.

If you are not familiar with Second Life, it is a 3D virtual world environment in which you are represented by 3D avatar in which you can interact with others and a virtual environment. If you have ever played a first person shooter video game, it is similar to that in certain ways (but less bloody). Visitors of Second Life (SL) can dress in various costumes and have various props, so one if they wanted can role play their favourite Doctor Who or Torchwood characters, fly their own TARDIS, have their own K9, etc. Or you can just be you (or your avatar) and just hang out and interact with others just as you would be going to a fan meet up.

Although you can purchase items for SL, you are not required to do so to use the service. If you never used SL, feel free to go ahead now download the software (Mac or Windows) before the meet up to try out Second Life and get your virtual feet wet.
