Thanks. Yes, the new mic is good, perhaps a bit too good. I noticed it kept picking up the fans running when they were engaged on my PowerMac G5 tower. It is sort of a catch-22... I had turned off the air conditioner so that noise from that would not be picked up, but it meant the fans on the G5 were running more.
Yep, no Skype in this podcast. One of the biggest problems with Skype is when you have multiple people, there is no way to adjust the levels individually with each person... it is all coming in on one channel. So one person could be very low and another high and it is difficult to make adjustments to them in post since they are not on separate tracks.
So usually the audio is better on our podcasts when we just have one person coming in via Skype (i.e. James). When you add others to the mix, it's all lumped into one track which as I said, limits what you can do with it afterwards.
Cheers,
Louis
P.S. - James is already using a Mac... We did try out iChat, and having the iChat track recorded in sync automatically in GB3 along with the local live recording track(s) would probably be easier, but the sound quality is actually better with Skype (when it is behaving) and of course, it is available readily for free for both platforms.
