As I think I said the story at least had some charm which the other prison stories didn't and yes; I could "go a 99" right now:)

Though I'd probably agree that there are better McGann stories in the back catalog, I did quite like the episode for a couple of reasons.

First, I enjoy the frisson of the Doctor being in everyday environments. I'm a bigger fan of, say, "Fear Her" and the "Jackie Tyler experience" than others because I think that some of the scarier, and funnier, moments happen when the unknown casts a shadow on the known.

Second, this story progresses the growing rapport of the Charley/C’rizz/Eighth Doctor TARDIS crew. For my money, this is one of the more interesting crews in the whole history of the audiovisual Doctor Who universe. And "Memory Lane" has a number of nice, sparky moments between those characters which prove them almost as interesting a regular cast as, say, Jamie/Victoria/Second Doctor. I'm actively hoping that we will see a permanent three-person TARDIS crew in Series 4 of the television program, as I'm still a little bitter about the tease-and-takeaway of longer-term Jack/Rose/Ninth Doctor and Mickey/Rose/Tenth Doctor combos. Until RTD gives me three names up in the title sequence, I guess I'll have to go to audios like "Memory Lane" for my fix of "well balanced TARDIS crew".

Oi! Santa! Word of advice: if you're attacking a man with a sonic screwdriver, don't let 'im near the sound system . . .
