While I agree that correcting wild speculation without spiolers would be difficult, I agree with Louis on the grounds that that is (in part) the very heart of long term Who fandom. Point me to a single story where it stood alone in comments generated, on this forum or in a Podshock podcast (or other sites and casts as well) and I believe you will find either a real stinker or a gem that we all agree on.

Here we have a clasic series return and we are expected to keep to one episode? Spelucation has been rife since the rumor surfaced and does not show signs of slowing (and nor do I expect it to) untill the series is completed. Here we have (without spoilers) a LARGE clasic series connection, plus a story arch that goes back a long way in the new series.

This whole thing is like asking us not to breathe untill Episode 13 has well and truly been aired, prefrably in all markets. And yes TalkShoe would have let us talk on for almost another half hour without host intervention.

Taras did address some specifics on what might have been missed in his posts. I have only listened to part of the show so far so I have no comment on what may or may not have been missed. Besides I don't really want to get into breaking down an individual show.

Of course some speculation is okay but I think there are two issues when it comes to speculation.

I think when reviewing we have to be careful not to spend too high a percentage of time looking forward rather than looking back at the episode we just watched. As a general rule if you're talking more about next week than this week it's too much. This is something I've been guilty of.

There is so much information out there and we are so close to the finale that things can be said that might seem innocuous or purely speculative but end up being the final piece that unintentionally blows it for somebody. It's not a level playing field and not everyone has the same knowledge and simply hearing where some people who might know a bit draw the line can give away more than intended. Somebody could even just pull an idea out of the air but when you hear it it clicks with something else.

Speculating in week one about how Martha will turn out over the course of the season and we're all mostly equal is one thing but speculating about weeks 12 & 13 when you're in week 11 and some people know quite a bit more than others can be dangerous.

I used the word "rebuffed" in quotes becuase I couldn't find a word to describe what I felt and it is apparently too strong. It is just that everybody (possibly myself as well) started speculating way too early in the recap. Twice I tried to stear the conversation to things we had yet to discuss about the episode and within a minute or so we were back on wild speculation.

A thing we could have touched on was how more subtle, effective and directly part of the storyline the arc threads were this series so far. We could have discussed Derek Jacobi's (cringe: how his name was mispronounced) performance in more detail, as we all seemed to think it was great, but left it mostly at that, except for the RTD quote from the Confidential. The depth of Sir Derek's performance deserved more than just a passing mention.

I just feel it is best to leave the thoughts about where the story may lead to a bit later in the discussion, not to get rid of them entirely.
