    Hi Tim,

Thinking back to the first time I saw Rose, I believe I had the same reaction to that scene... that it was just a bit odd... though after the 1996 TV movie, perhaps a little less odd in Doctor Who. At least the Doctor did not proclaim himself to be half-human! Non of that nonsense here :)

    Cheers,
    Louis

There was quite a bit of hand holding between the Doctor and Romana in City
    of Death.

Also, in the first Peter Cushing movie, Doctor Who holds Susan's hand quite a
bit early in the movie. I started watching it too soon after listening through all
the First Doctor audios, that I had to stop and put it away, as it was just too
different from the TV series on so many levels.

I think many of the elements that Russel T. Davies has put in the new series
have been done before. He just puts them together in new ways that may
seem odd at first, but are actually familiar. See how a kiss works in a better
script, for example, where it is part of the plot and not gratuitous.

Then again, the First Doctor refers to himself as human a few times, so these
comments can be taken a number of ways. Either literally, or as a way of
easing the fears and/or prejudices of those encountering the Doctor to make
him seem more familiar or palatable to those he encounters.
