To my understanding, it is only the blank CD-R "made for music" (i.e. blank Music CD-Rs) that are more expensive because they giving a piece of the pie to the music industry. The same thing with DAT tapes. But not the other blank media in the US. In Canada, it is a different story to my knowledge.
