What I didn't like with the episode was the blatant: "We can't have the Doctor and Rose in the episode so we'll throw this one at you." I would have rather had no episode than Love and Monsters. Yes, that's rough criticism, but I did not believe that the episode was a true Dr. Who episode.
If the show would have taken place as part of an extra online episode or another series, I could have accepted it better. What bothers me the most is that we have seen what great episodes could be created for the series. Unfortunately, Love & Monsters did air and my best advice is to just move onward, forgetting the episode ever happened.
I must admit that I was extremely surprised by how many fans have liked this episode. But to say that it's a 5 star episode and that people are still raving about it weeks later? I'm shocked. My advice to such lovers of the show is: Please, watch some other shows. Dr. Who isn't the only show on TV. Take some time out to see Battlestar Galactica or shows such as Lost. There have been so much stronger shows out there than Love & Monsters. And I'm not afraid to say so.
Yes, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, but I am shocked at the fierce love/hate of this episode. I guess it falls into that category. But again, with better writing out there in different shows, let's be realistic here.
