One of the great things that "Doctor Who" has is that when it pastiches stuff, it does it with its own wit and invention. But this seemed to be lacking here. It just seemed to be retreading the material, without really inventively changing it.
This being the biggest part of the episode, I wasn't too keen overall. Although personally I really liked the Doctor trying to steer an alien cruise liner from crashing into Buckingham Palace while the Queen races to get out. That's precisely the sort of fun I want from Doctor Who at Christmas!
That, and the Mr Copper story and the Cribbins cameo made it for me. The rest? Less impressed. And IMO not a patch on "The Christmas Invasion".
