As for the more general point on show availability, wile I understand the frustration at the lack of BBC material being easily available from the BBC outside the UK – I think you underestimate the problems that the BBC would face if they started broadcasting material. Firstly there are copyright implications. Secondly there are political considerations – the US TV industry would not like the thought of having to compete with a company that does not face the same commercial pressures.
It would be incredibly difficult for the BBC to solicit directly for $ from overseas people who’d want to watch all the shows that were paid for by the UK licence fee. That money would be seen as money taken out of, say, the US TV market by a state funded body (in other words, grossly unfair competition). What is more commercially acceptable would be for a US company, who thinks they can make a profit from the show, buying it and trying to maximise its revenue from it.
