Full 60 minute episodes are the standard for most BBC dramas these days (Spooks, Hustle, Murphy's Law, Life on Mars, etc). You can do so much more with just an extra 15 minutes. The Christmas Invasion is a great example of this. It feels like so much happens than in some of the regular 45 minute episodes.
