That----is a huge list. I agree with some and disagree with others, but I think my keyboard would melt if I tried to give my opinion for each one. (Is this what wikis were invented for?)

I compiled this list long after I listened to the bulk of the audio plays.

Feel free to let me know where I've gone horribly wrong, or where I've been spot on...

For some of the spinoff series, I used the same rating troughout, since I can't differentiate the individual stories at this point.

I think you've been fairly consistent with the markings (on the monthly series), which works because the plays themselves are fairly consistent. On the whole, I think the stories could be better, but they're definitely not bad. I'd probably have a few more 9s, and the odd 10. I'd also definitely have a few more lower scores!

Although I thought it got off to a dreadful start (I can't stand that Nicholas Courtney feline thing), I really like Benny's stuff. It's been great fun.

I'd definitely give the 1st part of Davros 10/10. And 9 to the others. I though it was one of BF's recent highpoints (and as I say on every post I make, nothing dies of old age on Skaro).

I think your take on Dalek Empire is roughly same as mine. The same would apply to the subscriber freebies (Crypto, Frobisher etc). The DWM freebies have been hit and miss.

I've not yet heard all of the BBC7 stuff, but I think it's been very strong. Alongside that, the also recently released Companion Chronicles have been entertaining.

I need to listen to Cyberman. I played the 1st part when it was released and really liked it, but never got round to listening to the rest. The scene where he met her (I can't remember who was who) in the rain, on that lonely planet was very atmospheric. It really reminded me of Cylon occupied Caprica. I think I'll start on that again tonight actually.....

I generally liked the Unit stuff. It worked well (although I seem to recall the OG reviews weren't great).

I need to go back and listen to the rest of the Sarah Jane series. It's more of a paranormal detective series and I think it was working well, but then I got to the one about the bombs on the tube, and (although completely coincidental) it wasn't a good time to have that story up next. I planned on skipping to the next one, but I never materialised!

I should get them really (if for no other reason than to complete the collection), but I don't own any Unbound or Gallifrey.I need to sort that.

On a non Doctor Who note, I really wanna get/hear the Sapphire and Steel CDs. I've got the 1.1 and I thought that was fantastic.

That's my take on Big Finish (for all it's worth).

Let me just take this section for now (It's late, I'm tired, and I need to figure out how to consul an ex of mine without upsetting my wife)
Doctor Who Magazine Last of the Titans ( 7th Doctor) ----- 6/10
Doctor Who Magazine The Ratings War ( 6th Doctor, Beep the Meep ) ----- 5/10
Doctor Who Magazine No Place Like Home ( 5th Doctor, Erimem) ----- 6/10
Doctor Who Magazine Living Legend ( 8th Doctor, Charley) ----- 6/10
Doctor Who Magazine Silver Lining / The Coup (Benny / UNIT) ----- 7/10
Doctor Who Magazine The Veiled Leopard ( Peri, Erimem, Ace, Hex) ----- 6/10
Pretty much in full agreement here, except for Last of the Titans and Ratings War, both of which I would give 7/10.
Doctor Who Unbound 1. Auld Mortality ( Geoffrey Bayldon as the Doctor with Carole Ann Ford as Susan) ----- 8/10
Doctor Who Unbound 2. Sympathy for the Devil ( David Warner as the Doctor with Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier) ----- 7/10
Doctor Who Unbound 3. Full Fathom Five ( David Collings as the Doctor with Ed Bishop as General Flint) ----- 7/10
Doctor Who Unbound 4. He Jests at Scars... ( Michael Jayston as the Valeyard with Bonnie Langford as Mel) ----- 7/10
Doctor Who Unbound 5. Deadline ( Sir Derek Jacobi as the Doctor?) ----- 6/10
Doctor Who Unbound 6. Exile ( Arabella Weir as the Doctor) ----- 5/10
Doctor Who Unbound 7. A Storm of Angels ( Geoffrey Bayldon as the Doctor with Carole Ann Ford as Susan) ----- 9/10
I think I'm the only one that didn't like Full Fathom Five (5/10). Exile I really liked as a Farch/comedy (7.5/10)

And Deadline was just plain weird. Figured I just say that.

With regards to Last of the Titans, I tend to be a bit more demanding of the scripts/ideas Big Finish recycled from the amateur Audio/Visuals days. I felt that they really blew it with Minuet in Hell; I like the original script so much more. That story just doesn't work as well in the modern era. Oh, and I never liked Beep the Meep.

With regards to Full Fathom Five, I wish we had more of Ed Bishop in Doctor Who. I loved him as Straker in UFO and it is unfortunate that he has passed on.

If Deadline was a more "traditional" story, Sir Derek would be the answer to trivia questions of which actor played both the Doctor and the Master. The one time I listened to the play was during a marathon session of Unbounds and that may not have been the best way to enjoy it.

Unbound and the Davros series have actually been favourite Big Finish moments. I would definately recommend:

Unbound:
"Auld Mortality"
"Sympathy For the Devil" (David Warner is BRILLIANT!)
"Full Fathom 5"

I also liked "He Jests At Scars", but prepare yourself for a hell of a lot of continuity references!

A lot of the monthly audios I find that I don't listen to more than once, but of course there are exceptions!

"Davros"
"Master"
"Bloodtide"
"Spare Parts"
"Jubilee"
"Circular Time"

Those have all got repeated plays from me! Recently I also really enjoyed "The Gathering" and most of the BBC7 McGann series which pays off if you listen to it in order.

I think the latest round of Companion Chronicles have been as good as the last lot, and I can't wait for the new 8th Doctor series to start arriving. I didnt like Lucie at first but she grew on me. McGann is just so cool. Colin Baker is my favourite BF Doctor, but McGann challenges that at times.

I've still not heard any of the Unbounds (I don't actually own them). I should sort that. Big Finish's Xmas sale is currently on and I was thinking about getting them (along with Gallifrey - the only other BF Doctor related series' I've not got) but I just havent got the money right now and won't have til after the sale has ended.

If anyone ever fancied the Tomorrow People audio dramas but didnt get round to it, you've missed the boat. They withdrew the range yesterday.

Incidentally - did anyone notice when their web address changed? They're no longer DoctorWho.co.uk, but simply BigFinish.com.

I personally think Frazer Hines knocked one out of the park with Helicon Prime. I can't say it was the best storyline I've ever heard, but Hines turns in a performance that is simply extraordinary. He is able to portray Jamie and the 2nd Doctor with considerable ease. There were times when I honestly thought I was listening to Patrick Troughton. Remarkable.

Yeah, although until only a couple of days ago Big Finish themselves were selling all 5 series for £90.

& once Play have sold out of current stocks, they're gone.

They must've had a real fall-out. To not renew a contract isn't a big deal, but to have to pull what you've already licensed, recorded & released is unusual.

A little catching up, I finally listened to a few of the most recent releases recently. I really liked the last two monthly releases in the main Doctor Who line: 104. The Bride of Peladon and 105. The Condemned. The former was helped a bit by nostalgia and also as a wrapping up of the Erimem arc we had developed in 99. Son of the Dragon and 102. The Mind's Eye. After Bride, I may need to reevaluate The Mind's Eye, as we definately see the direction Erimem is heading in.

I liked The Condemned for a number of reasons. The first is how Charlie deals with a different Doctor. In a first, we see a companion encounter an earlier Doctor without the presence of their "current" Doctor. I like how the Doctor is suspicious of his new travelling companion. Another reason is we have a very interesting sci-fi concept wrapped around a modern detective drama. Contrary to the CD Extras, we have had a TARDIS crew member accused of murder when appearing in a locked room with the murder victim (Ian in The Key's of Marinus), but it does get the story started quickly. The setting did seem a bit too Men In Black for my tastes, though.

On to the Eighth Doctor stories. I felt that both 2.1 Dead London and 2.2 Max Warp were OK, but they haven't lived up to the promise of the end of last year's series, and have yet to address (as far as I can tell) the loose ends from that series. I may have enjoyed Max Warp more, if I didn't think of the parallels to The Leisure Hive and Timelash while listening to it.

The Catalyst (Companion Chronicles) brought back some nostalgia for the Tom Baker era, while I felt that The Wake (Bernice Summerfield) was a bit of a let down as a series finale.

I thought The Catalyst had a wonderfully eerie setting and backdrop, but it had 2 things wrong with it; the ending (!), and Louise Jameson's awful attempt at playing the 4th Doctor! She was woeful (although in fairness, in the extras she herself said it was something with which she really struggled).

I'm way behind on the regular monthly series now. There were a couple of people who mentioned how good the Peladon story was at Invasion last week so I'm hoping to get round to it soon.

I was actually going to listen to Dead London on a train to Northampton on way to a meeting a couple of weeks ago - but on the morning in question, Darth Skeptical postively kicked the s**t out of it! So I didnt bother and went for a Judge Dredd instead. I'll listen to it soon however. Even when the stories arent so good McGann can almost still make them worthwhile.

Dead London has actually got a cool idea, and it is a decent story. I just think that our expectations for this series are a bit too high at this point. Then again, last series started out with Blood of the Daleks, which is about the same league as this and Max Warp.

Yeah, sorry about that. I didn't mean to vent so much London bile that it would actually prevent someone from listening to it. At the end of the day, Taras is quite right to point out that it's a case less of disliking a story on its own merits and more of thinking it fell short of its promise. It's also sort of the reverse of "Blood of the Daleks", in my mind. There the core story was weaker than the characterization. The start of the Doctor/Lucie relationship made listening a joy, in a vaguely similar way to how the character relationships of "An Unearthly Child" are stronger than its plot. I still think BF is frittering away the magic of the 8/Lucie relationship, but you should still support the line if for no other reason than to ensure it gets the chance to return to its full potential. Trust me, if in fact we do get back to Lucie-centric storytelling, I'll be the first to re-evaluate Dead London as a diverting lull in the ongoing character arcs. I mean, it's not like Sarah or Zoe or Barbara sparkled every single outing.

Tarashnat, do you have any rating updates you'd like to make? I'm very curious to hear what you thought of The Haunting of Thomas Brewster or the latest 8th Doctor/Lucie adventures.

Personally, I found The Haunting of Thomas Brewster to be an admirable example of Big Finish attempting to momentarily break away from their narrative restraints (reminiscent of Love & Monsters and Random Shoes from the televised Whoniverse), but marred by some unexceptional acting and the re-use of a plot device heard heard just a few months ago on The Bride of Peladon (hint: are you my mummy?). I also found the story arch for the Robert McIntosh character to be weak and needlessly tragic.

I have really been enjoying the third season of the Eighth Doctor and Lucie Miller audio plays. I think this has been the strongest series yet for the pair.

The recent main range plays have been pretty good, as have the Companion Chronicles.
