10 JANUARY 2008 | MERCHANDISE | FOB WATCH
Expect eBay to be awash with CHARACTER OPTIONS latest "toy".
The Doctor's Fob Watch is a highly detailed (and fully functional - as a watch, of course) replica of the fob watch used by both the Doctor and the Master. It features speech, lights and sound effects.
RRP: £14.99. Suitable for five year olds plus and adults of-a-certain-age.
sadly it looks plastic...

Seriously?
Looks awesome, well £15 for a detailed toy of a prop the plastic option was probably best.
It might be oversized as well to accommodate the voice/sound effects etc.
No matter what I'm liking it!

I'd probably rather someone pushed the boat out and did a proper reproduction watch, as opposed to a plastic job.
I'm not a massive fan of the screwdrivers and reproduction style items (Judoon Scanners etc) that Character do, but that's just me. They're clearly very popular with everyone else.
I do remember Smitty was actually asking for one of these months ago.
Yes I did!
It looks pretty darn close to what I thought it would be if it was made into a rolepaying toy/accessory. Oh I've seen a few more pics and it is not oversized.

I then recalled that the fob watch from HN/FOB/U was a little big as well.

Is this plastic? If so, that is a shame. Didn't there used to be another Doctor Who FOB watch available some years ago which was pewter or something. I think I have it (though it may have broke on me). Memory is a little hazy on it now, perhaps it had the seal of Rassilon and the DW logo (similar to the 1996 video movie)...
This is nice, but I would prefer a proper watch, not a toy.
Cheers,
Louis
This is the actual one from Human Nature:

The watches have started turning up in Argos folks (if anyone is planning on getting one).
I was told there were a few of these in the dealers room at Gallifrey 2008. They were the first to sell out as well. But unfortunately, I was also told they are made out of plastic.
Oh well... It's just a toy.
Let me know when some company makes a real FOB watch replica.
Cheers,
Louis
I found one at the NYC Forbidden Planet tonight.
I saw this at the Toy Fair last week. I met Robyn and Matt from Underground, and they were great. Robyn's British, which surprised me a bit. Nice lady.
I took this photo of the fob watch toy. It's basically full-sized, and looked good. I didn't ask her to take it out of the case, but I should have. I got this photo, not of the interior, though.

And the better news still is that this:

is a real fob watch! This will also be available. It's somewhat smaller than the real deal. If the original is 8cm across, this must have been about half-scale at 4-5cm across.
Oh... and for those who wish to be envious:

That's a real BBC Dalek that got shipped over for the Toy Fair show, and I was told it would be at Forbidden Planet in New York for a while as well, on display, before it returns to England.
Sean.
I found one in Tesco...
its nice but NOT good enough... i want a metal one... 15 quid plastic looking and feeling...
The Dalek has been at the NYC Forbidden Planet for a few weeks now... I have seen it a couple of times.
The real one is sweet. When do we get that?
And way to pose there, Sean!
And how much will that fab real fob watch be?!

Cool. Do you know when this is going to be available? I wish it was full scale and I wish the watch face plate matched the original one better, but if it is real (i.e. not a plastic toy), I will take it (if it is priced reasonably).
Cheers,
Louis
Oh yes. A real metal watch. Why didn't they put that out first!
I gotta see this real Dalek at Forbidden Planet too!
A metal Gallifreyan FOB watch in three easy steps:
STEP 1: buy Character Options toy watch
STEP 2: buy real FOB watch with no markins/engravings on cover
STEP 3: have the patterns on the toy watch engraved onto the metal FOB watch by a jeweler or engraver.
TA-DA!
^ I was about to bring this up!
Totally by chance today, I was at my local Dollar General store. I passed an aisle and hanging there was for $8 was a silvery, yes silvery FOB watch. It looks like the HN/FOB watch!
Totally bare no designs on it. Perfect!
It's a bit shiny and new, but there's a spray that can dull metal surfaces and an electric etcher, approximate the designs or Hell make up my own!
Totally by chance and wonderfully unexpected. Do I wanna get the CO version? You bet! But that one I found was sweet too!!!

Very cool find Dave, wish it was avilable. Fully configurable Fob watch, give me some of that.
Here is the design page as well-

Wow!
That reminds me of the Doctor's fob watch in Survival.
Now an MP3 player in a fob watch casing would be damn cool too!

The real deal.
I spent the past 9 months getting this thing right.
This will be as close to the actual prop as you're going to get.

Hi CT, and may I say... That is one heck of a FIRST POST!
Fill out your profile info and.... Welcome aboard.
Cheers,
Merlin
Wow. Your replicas are very impressive! Feel free to contact Louis or myself about this further.
Thank you for the great welcome! It is nice to be here.
Just a quick note: the actual size of the prop watch is around 50mm. You can see side by side comparisons on my website.
(The concept art is inaccurate: an 8cm diameter would put the watch at over 4 inches diameter! Also, the finished watch differs from the concept art drastically!)
Add a link to your site in our web resources section. You may want to contact JumpCon about dealers info: sales@jumpcon.com
Thank you Ken, I have just done this.
In regards to dealer inquiries etc, I must point out that I am unlicenced and the BBC do not like me hence why I operate semi-clandestine. It is a long story but basically I tried to obtain a licence but they refused without even considering my application.
I would dearly love to get more exposure for my products but at the same time I do not want to get the JumpCon organisers in trouble nor do I want to compromise my own anonymity.
