The Futon Critic > DOCTOR WHO ARRIVES TO ITUNES reports that the first three series of Doctor Who are available in the US iTunes Store.
Link to the store: Doctor Who in iTunes (will launch iTunes)
It doesn't look like any of the Christmas specials are available, yet, but at $25.87 per series, this is a bargain for those who haven't bought the episodes yet.
I haven't checked this out, but I am assuming that you will need to have a compatible version of quicktime to view it? I've had problems with a recent purchase(different tv show) due to itunes download requirements. I'm not sure if the episodes will download into the tv section of your itunes.
The US iTunes Store has no started making classic episodes available in video! They've loaded about a dozen episodes, all but one of which are Pertwee episodes. I've picked up The Time Monster, Planet of the Spiders, Terror of the Autons and The Krotons (the only non-Pertwee story posted so far). They've also posted Spearhead from Space, The Green Death, Carnival of Monsters, The Three Doctors, and maybe one or two others.
These do download to the TV Shows section of your iTunes library.
The current iTunes lineup of classic serials includes:
Second Doctor
47—The Krotons
Third Doctor
51—Spearhead from Space
55—Terror of the Autons
57—The Claws of Axos
64—The Time Monster
65—The Three Doctors
66—Carnival of Monsters
69—The Green Death
70—The Time Warrior
74—Planet of Spiders
Fourth Doctor

87—The Hand of Fear
95—The Sun Makers

Perhaps Apple should hire me as a consultant for their Doctor Who catalog, as this screen shot I just took of my Apple TV shows... they could use a little help.
Doctor Who: The Two Doctors
I'll have to check out the iTunes Store using the iTunes application to see if it is limited to just the Apple TV or not.
Cheers,
Louis
Ahh... I see the confusion is not just limited to the Apple TV, but as suspected, in the iTunes Store itself.
Showing the wrong two doctors, wouldn't be so bad if they actually offered the 1996 TV movie, but they do not (at least at the time I am writing this).
Doctor Who: The Two Doctors (will open in iTunes).
Cheers,
Louis
P.S.
Here's a screenshot link (it will not open iTunes) Doctor Who: The Two Doctors

What's going on!?!?!?
Its been a month and there have been no new episodes!!!
I repeat: What's going on!?!?!?
Of course us Brits should'nt be able to download anything off the American iTunes store but, well there is a way. I've just been buying (please note buying not stealing in any way) some of the episodes (Planet of the Spiders & The Sunmakers)If you want to know how send me a message.

I think these are the episodes that used to be available for download/streaming on the BBC/Vuze collaboration a while back, so I assume that they already had the internet distribution rights taken care of and just needed to encode/transcode the content to the iTunes Store's format. It may take some time for new stuff to appear from now on as the rights negotiations are not trivial with regards to the old content from UK television due to the way Equity contracts were structured at the time.
I repeat, these are my assumptions.
iTunes US store has just added the Doctor Who 2008 series (AKA "series 4") (direct link to the iTunes store).
I am guessing the episodes will be populated as they are shown on BBC America. Voyage of the Damned is now available as part of this series ("season").
Cheers,
Louis
Yes Louis, it's only until after they are shown on BBC America do they show up on iTunes. I was trying to get them when they were shown on Sci-Fi, but, I guess since DW IS British.... it makes sence. However, still wondering why BBC America isn't showing new episodes.... and Sci-Fi is?? Not really complaining (I would've had to wait until now to see "season 4"), just wondering.
In refrence to the airing of the 4th Series (2008 season) airing on BBC America there are now ads on the channel announcing that they will be airing them soon.
It won't be long now but. I'm looking forward to the new Christmas special!!!
Brigid, I am sure it is due to a contract deal they had with BBC America which would allow them to air the episodes before they become available on iTunes.
Cheers,
Louis
Thanks Louis and T! One other question (at least for now LOL), will we (Americans) be able to see the new specials, or will we have to wait until Sci-Fi shows them in next years season? In the past, Sci-Fi has put the Christmas episodes in with the new seasons. If that holds true with this "season".... I'll have to wait.
I also won't be on the boards, listening to any podcasts, or reading Podshock blogs/bulletins on myspace if that is the case.
Again... I'm depressed!
My last posting on this page is in error.
The BBC America channel started airing the 4TH series last week on Saturday (November 8) and they started with a very trimmed version of "Voyage of the Damned". The Christmas special is packaged as the first episode of the new series in the US as opposed to being a special.

The Christmas specials are now available as part of the series now. They weren't until recently. They are organized with the series that they were released on (on DVD).
The episodes will not appear on iTunes US until they have aired on BBC America first. Note, though, that SciFi (US) has been purchasing the first run rights in the US so far, so they appear on that cable channel first.
