found an old INVISION mag and it said that in 1991 someone named Matt Smith wrote to complain about the sex and violence in the first NEW ADVENTURES story. If it is our Matthew Smith he'd have to be 19 or 18 or so but tha'ts a popular name.
Also noticed that Phil Segal was canvassig fans to save the tv movie BEFORE it was even cast and that it was definitely not going to go to series!
Could you give specifics of this magazine? What's the cover date? I'm very interested in the Phil Segal comments, as I've long thought it was a fan myth that Doctor Who (1996) was a pilot of any kind.
To my understanding it was indeed officially a pilot for a potential new series back then. Paul McGann even signed a 5 year contract. But it was conditional on it being picked up in the US as series since the BBC stated they could not finance it on their own. We know that did not happen and thus there was never a series following it.
Apparently even before it was cast Universal was NOT keen on a series at all and wasn't that keen on the pilot either!
