sorry for getting stuck on the obvious with this news, but while I'm excited about the Master returning, its the fact that the Doctor is NOT the only Time Lord left that has me excited! I think many of us where hoping this to be the case, but here we go! RTD is bringing back the Gallifreyans!

Oh - shoot! - unless the whole Master thing is done in flashback. You don't think RTD would be that mean, do you?

Oh, The Sun scooped this up a while back, but we chose to ignore it at the time... The Sun | Dr Who v Marster

I never believe anything the Sun says - this is a fundemental belief. Having said that I'm not sure the Independant are a completely reliable source either. but I'm holding out hope.

...I still think the Master picked up Jack at the end of Torchwood.

But having two sources saying the same thing tends to slightly boost the credibility level. Not by much, mind you, but it is a perceptible change. Then again, The Sun did save the Daleks! They said so themselves! Smile

if this is done well then it has the potential to be great,
but till i hear better news, like that RTD isn't writing the episode or that they aren't going to ignore the backstory involved, i'll remain hopeful about this.

there is also a good chance this will turn out to be a load of bollocks, considering the source.

Such a beautiful thing is always good that it is fascinating. However, a good thing is beautiful always.

Philip Glenister and John Simm from cult TV series Life On Mars were guests on BBC6's Lunchtime Darts.

Or maybe that's just the bars I hang out in...

    Well, yes and no. Wink

I, for one, freaked the hell out when the Sun leaked the info, but I noticed things were quiet around here shortly after the news hit. Not only that, but the news reports got a facelift both here and over @ OG not long after it went up - quite obviously to lessen the validity of the claim and turn the volume down on the whole thing until more was known.

Well, that said - more is known. MUCH more. I'd have to say the Independent's follow-up along with Simm's coy acknowledgment to the rumor while appearing on BBC 6Music is all we really need to cement this as fact. And I do believe this has me more excited than anything yet since the series has been back on the air. It's going to be AWESOME.

As to *which* Master John Simm will portray, I'm going to have to agree that it will be a new, "once again, I've cheated death - bwahahahaha" Master - not an earlier incarnation. It just makes the most sense, given RTD's track record with returning villains thus far. But you never know, I guess. And it's Doctor Who, after all - anything is possible.

I also can't wait for this season to begin - it's going to be that much more intense knowing what's laying in wait at the end of it!

Human Biological Metacrisis = Bite Me, RTD.

Why does John Simm even need to grow a goatee?

If it's a new incarnation ie maybe he got renewed and thrown to the far reaches of the cosmos due him being sucked into the Eye of Harmony!

But will The Master possibly being assuming he's even playing The Master, kind of fudge the "The Doctor being last of the Timelords" idea?

If he's playing The Master that is?

Well, there's the alternate universe idea, but we nenver really got that there were Timelords in other universes.

There was no mirror version of The Doctor in Inferno and those there had no idea who he was.

Indeed, if he "Survived" it should be just his essence (if we take the McGann movie into account) not a Timelord. But there are some big continuity gaps involved in bringing him back without the "I'll explain later" mentality Wink . Will he still be infected/effected by the Cheetah Planet (eyes and teeth)? Will his true form be just a body possesing transparent snake? Oh, well wait we must Mr. Green .

    Cheers,
    Mike M.
