[Quote by: Adam] [Quote by: tarashnat] [Quote by: Adam] [Quote by: tarashnat] [Quote by: Adam] And now another easy question: Who wrote the theme music for the programme?
|
| Ron Granier
Taras |
|
It's Ron Grainer, not Ron Grainier! |
| Hey, I did not know there would be points off for spelling, plus I could go and edit my post to fix it...
Taras |
| There are no points off for spelling, but I'm a bit like Susan; I correct every mistake I see. |
|
I do not consider it bad nettiquette to point out incorrect spelling in a discussion. Many people consider that impolite, but personally I believe plenty of net posters could use some spelling and grammatical education.
The dismal state of English education these days is amazingly evident if you visit any internet forums or discussion groups.
And of course honest typos are easily forgiven.
But just for the record, Adam, I do consider it bad form to correct someone's spelling - with incorrect spelling.
To quote: "It's Ron Grainer, not Ron Grainier!" Which is not what Taras wrote. He wrote "Granier".
If you really do correct those mistakes you see, you could spend some time going back and correcting the spelling and grammatical mistakes you've made in your various posts before correcting someone else's.
Some examples:
| [Quote by: Adam]All I'm doing is asking as many questions as I can, and wait for them to be answered. |
|
You wanted to say "waiting for them to be answered." In a parallel structure, your verbs must agree.
| [Quote by: Adam]In 'The Rescue', Vicki has a pet, what is it's name? |
|
I believe you mean: In 'The Rescue' Vicki has a pet. What is its name? - Note the period, instead of comma, and "its" rather than "it's". "it's" is a contraction of "it is". "its" is the possessive form of "it".
| [Quote by: Adam]When Daleks speak, how do we know it's speaking?(apart from the voice) |
|
What you probably meant was either: "When Daleks speak, how do we know they are speaking?" or "When a Dalek speaks, how do we know it's speaking?" Both are correct. Yours was not. Your subjects must agree.
| [Quote by: Adam]Here's a question you should all know: When was the first episode of Doctor Who broadcast? and what happened th day before? |
|
After a question mark the next character should be capitolized. "And what happened the day before?" Note the correct spelling of "the".
| [Quote by: Adam]Here's a curiosity question: Why isn't the show called Doctor Who?? |
|
Well, I believe it IS called "Doctor Who", isn't it? If you meant to ask "Why isn't the show called "Doctor Who?"? with a question mark, you should use the proper quotation marks.
| [Quote by: Adam]3 Of the Doctor actors are not known by their real name, which one's are they and what are their real names |
|
In internet discussions, the use of "3" rather than spelling it out is ok, I guess, but don't follow it with "Of", rather, "of". And "the Doctor actors" is quite awkward... but again, I'll let that one slide. However, "Three of the Doctor actors are not known by their real name" should be "their real names". And of course "Which one's" should be "Which ones".
There's an old tale of someone living in a glass house or something... and something about the color of a pot...
Sean.
