They probably saw what BBCAmerica was doing with Torchwood Series 2 and thought hey let's follow suit!
Good stuff all round.

| I wonder if the writers strike also impacted the date. I would think that if the writers had been working, SciFi (US) would have had their own content ready to go up in April, which is when they used to start new seasons of series. |

Barring a huge delay of Series 4 in the UK, it looks like The Sarah Jane Adventures will premiere on April 11th and Series 4 of Doctor Who will premiere on April 18th (according to the SciFi (US) schedulebot). I would assume that assume that these premieres are the holiday specials Invasion of the Bane and , respectively. Then one can assume that the Friday night lineup for the Spring will be The Sarah Jane Adventures, Doctor Who, and Battlestar Galactica. |

Assuming Taras' Friday night assumption is correct... the Sci-Fi Channel has truly just made my summer!
And all of yours, no doubt. |

The Sarah Jane Adventures has completed one run through on BBC Kids and is currently going through a second run. It's on at 9pm EST.
Doctor Who Series Four is a lot more complicated. So far the CBC has yet to confirm if they are a co-production partner on the next series or if they are going to air it. If they are in fact picking up Series Four it's tough to predict when it will be aired but it definitely will not be during the spring. The NHL Playoffs make a spring run on CBC impossible. The soonest we'd see Doctor Who starting on CBC (again, only if they have it) is June. If it goes somewhere else then nobody really knows.

| Do you think SciFi will show Voyage of the Damned on April 18th? Then continue the series on April 18th. |

Some odd scheduling going on.
If memory serves, each Sarah Jane story is broken into 2 parts?
So, if 90 minutes is what the premiere is being given, I take it that would be the Bane stroy plus part 1 of the Slitheen one?
Then, the following week it would be part 2 of the Slitheen and 90 minutes for Voyage of the Damned.
Makes snese, but, if you consider that Voyage ran about 75 minutes, and each half hour of commercial tv has roughly 8 minutes of commercials, they will need to do some cutting, unless they will air it with limited commercial interuption (very doubtful).
Looks like by the 3rd week, they will finally get a normal schedule.

SciFi aired the previous Christmas special in a 90 minute time slot. They tend to have approx. 18 minutes of comercials/idents per hour.
April 11th should be the premiere of Invaision of the Bane and April 18th should be be the premiere of Voyage of the Damned. |

| So if I've got this straight, Sarah Jane forms a programming block with Battlestar Galactica? That's quite the bizarre pairing. |
