From this thread at Film Score Monthly:

possible news about Eleventh Doctor and cast changes for Torchwood.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS BELOW
DOCTOR WHO---big changes are reportedly ahead for DOCTOR WHO and TORCHWOOD according to "Dr. Phibes" of Sci-Fi Pulse. Phibes said David Tennant will leave the series and be replaced by Robert Carlyle (THE FULL MONTY). Tennant supposedly will film the 2009 specials and appear in the Christmas episode where he will regenerate into Carlyle's Doctor Who. Phibes said Carlyle is in negotiations with the BBC now. However, Carlyle denied he's replacing Tennant, but said he would be interested in the role if asked. Phibes also said TORCHWOOD will have major cast changes with John Barrowman, Burn Gorman and Naoko Mori not returning. Eve Myles will return and be joined by DOCTOR WHO's Freema Agyeman who will be full-time. Barrowman will return only for guest appearances. TORCHWOOD also will have less adult-themed plots in order to appeal to a wider audience like DOCTOR WHO. Dr. Phibes has a reputation for being a reliable source of information.
The BBC also is unhappy that a British tabloid published script leaks from DOCTOR WHO's two-part episode about a "library planet" in the 51st Century where its books contain spoilers about peoples' futures and creatures (Vashta Nerada--"piranhas of the air-shadows that melt flesh" and data ghosts, inhabit the libraries).

not believing it yet, but I like Robert Carlyle. I don't know about how good a doctor he would be though.
I find the potential spoiler re: Torchwood to be more probable. I could see Barrowman wanting something new, and really, what are they going to do with Owen? He's dead, dude.
Just have to remember: it ain't true until the BBC denies it! |

They are also pushing the rehashed Ben Kingsley is Davros rumour on their Feb. 22 "interview" with Freeman Agyeman. I think this site may have also repeated false or discredited rumours in the past, but I can't remember, and don't have the time to research. In that article, they get wrong what the prosthetics are for, as anyone that has seen the current series of Torchwood can attest to which program it was for. |

I find the idea of a regeneration in a Christmas special highly weird and not something I would see the BBC doing.
Maybe I'm just in utter denial to mask the fact I'll be devestated when Tennant leaves.
Not familiar with the actor in question, got to look him up.
With Torchwood, I heard or read somewhere that John Barrowman said he'll play the part of Jack til they tell him to stop, he loves the character.
Anyway, with all rumours, it's best to not take them too seriously. |

Trust me, while the departure rumors may (or may not) be true... NO ONE has committed or signed on the dotted line to play the next Doctor in 2010.
Television production simply doesn't work that way, I know (see my profile)... it's just too early!
And why is everyone throwing out celebrity names as if the show HAS EVER gone that route?! The possible exception being Davison (coming off "All Creatures... ") for those of you in the UK, but not (at the time) for those of us here in the colonies.
The casting of the next Doctor will most likely follow suit with a name unbeknownst to most fans... who'll win us over just as easily as Eccleston, Piper and Tennant did (and how many of you were honestly AWARE OR EXCITED about those names until you saw them in the roles).
Come on people, let's embrace the "I don't know" or the "Never heard of him (or her)". I mean let's face it: we've been surprised and won over before... and we probably will again.
