Just trying to decide if current finances will allow me to go. Particularly since I've met Colin Baker twice in the last two years and Nicola once. However, the prospect of Phil Collinson and Wendy Padbury has me interested. I was very kean to see Graham Harper (but at least he had to pull out for a good reason).

Plus last year was such good fun. Anyone else from last year thinking about going? Lanaia? Extermaknitter?

Barnaby that's a great price. I wonder if the airlines have come down in price along with gasoline? Some airlines are still charging to check baggage, even though gas prices are down. --Billy

I was very happy with it! It was $399 last week. I have been watching it closely on Kayak.com, and there was a huge drop today, and so I jumped on it! Smile

I really want to go one of these years. How late do the rooms book up? Would there still be any available at this late date? Maybe I'll price out airfare and stuff just for fun.

I seriously doubt the airlines will ever go back to not charging for luggage no matter how cheap fuel gets. I really despise air travel these days.

I think rooms are still available. They sold out at one point and another group of rooms was alotted to the convention so they started taking bookings again. There are a bunch of hotels very close walking distance so a room shouldnt be a problem.
If you attend this con, you'll be converted and will attend every year. Its that good. --Billy

Doctor Whoovie, you can't miss out on seeing the first live appearance of Louis, Ken, and James. It's a moment in Podshock history that I can't wait to see. It'll be great to hang out with the guys again!

There are still rooms available at the hotel for Gallifrey 2009, but they are now regular price. The convention discount block of rooms has been sold out.

    Cheers,
    Louis

So, just out of curiosity, how much can a person expect to pay over the course of the weekend? Not counting buying books, DVDs, shirts, or anything like that. Just being there? What do most people do for meals? If you can't tell, I'm a total noob. Big Grin

Outside of convention costs and the room bill, your only monetary concern is food. Because the Marriott is right by the airport (LAX), you don't have many options outside of the three restaurants and Starbucks located in the hotel. There's a Carl's Jr. about three blocks away, but that's about the only place in walking distance. Inside the hotel, you have Champion's Sports Bar (pub food), J.W.'s Steakhouse (upper-scale joint but still casual regarding attire), and Latitude 33 (middle-of-the-road breakfast and lunch). Most of the people I met at the convention hung out at the sports bar for drinks and snacks.

As far as cost goes, most meals at Champions and Latitude 33 go for anywhere between $9 to $15. I don't know if you're a drinker, but the cost of booze seemed to be a little high for me, but it's a airport hotel and that's just standard from my experience.

Anyone have any recommendations for a cheaper hotel near the Marriott?

There's also a Dennys and a Bk (I think!) nearby.
