here
I am calling BS on this. The article would have you believe that RTD, the outgoing Producer Would have a major say on casting. Admittedly the Vast Toffee did say he wanted an older actor to play the Doctor. But as Clunes has been cast the the rise and fall of reginald Perrin reboot, its hardly credible is it?
of course Martin Clunes has been in Doctor Who Before, Snakedance if memory serves. |

Funnily enough I have an actor friend who told me this exact story before Christmas and I thought it was balls. Now...well maybe it has a grain of truth after all. I suspect that he was considered for the part of Jackson Lake before they ultimately chose Morrissey and now, as per usual, the story has been exaggerated. This friend also said that David Jason is going to play Winston Churchill in one of the upcoming specials. You heard it here first folks! |

Didn't they try to get David Jason before? Apparently he has/had a deal with ITV, which for some reason doesn't stop him working for Sky. Which is strange!
He'll be wasted as Winston Churchill though. They need to give him a comic-type role. |

The most likely story was that he was on the shortlist for the role of Jackson Lake. |

Martin Clunes was originally intended for The Next Doctor, but the deal collapsed shortly before filming began because they couldn't agree a fee with his agent.
He was also rumoured to be very close to getting the role back in 2004.
The articles claim that RTD would have had a say in the casting of the new Doctor is, as others have said, likely to mean its a load of nonsense |

Well RTD seems to like actors with stick-out ears.
