Let's not forget the Big Finish Dalek story which takes place in Shakespeare's time.
When you get Daleks going around quoting Shakespeare, you really have to rethink the script...

hmm... Let me add to the fun here. I will try to list those that haven't already been listed to my knowledge here.
- Thomas Edison
- Harvey Milk
- Andy Warhol
- Salvador Dali
- Sydney Newman
- Martin Luther King
- Jimi Hendrix
- John Glenn
and since some have included fictional characters as well... Let me through in one as well:
- Indiana Jones
Well... that's it for now.
Cheers,
Louis

Had an idea for Jimi when I thought his latest companion Martha should have been picked up in the past. In particular at Woodstock, and Martha mistakes the TARDIS for a protapaotty-and the Doctor gives Hendrix Hendrix the notion to play the National Anthem |

Cute. It's been a while since I seen that movie... though I do have the DVD, albeit still in it's shrink wrap at this point. One of these days I will break it open and enjoy it watching it again.

| See, I've thought for a while now that the most plausible fictional meetup could be between the Doctor and Serenity crew. Sure, it could never happen for rights reasons (well, at least it could never be aired on SciFi in the US for rights reasons), but the era of Firefly is mostly unexplored territory in the Doctor Who universe, so it could plausibly be that Serenity plies a corner of space-time where the Doctor could materialize . . . |

I remember sometime back in the 80's there was fan fiction written and published (magazine style if I recall correctly -- I remember at had an illustrated cover... it may have even been a graphic novel, but I am sure DarthSkeptical would know about it then) of the Doctor on the Enterprise... In which the TARDIS finds itself on board the USS Enterprise (of the original series, Kirk, Spock, etc.). I don't recall any details, I need to dig it up (if I can find it).

Ahhh....
but which one?
For the little'uns ?
For the nostalgic?
For those who never emerged from the 80s!
For the trekkies?
or just because Cary Elwes would be a super AWESOME guest star!
(Unlike some other Robin Hoods, he can speak with an English accent. Gasp!)
My personal favourite. This is where my vote lies.

| I think you're talkin' about the granddaddy of all ST/DW crossovers, at least from an American perspective, called The Doctor and the Enterprise. Though it was a prose work, I do know a little about the art on the original printed version. The cover art was by Gail Bennett, a fairly famous name in late 70s/early 80s fan art circles (she even sold some of her work to minor professional works, such as the Doctor Who: Find Your Fate line of books). In the early 80s it was considered something of a coup if you could get Bennett to do your cover; she was as close as you could get to a professional artist (and as she made some money off of her art, I guess she was a professional).
The problem with this work is that there's more than one version, but the only one that's approved by Airey should read as the text linked to, above, and should have the cover art by Bennett.
The version which comes closest to being a graphic novel is the one most frowned upon by the author. It, perhaps, was released without writer Jean Airey's permission, by Pioneer Books. Since Pioneer was a professional publisher, looking to make money off the book, they worried about infringing copyright laws. Hence, they changed the work, by replacing names like "Captain Kirk" with simply "The Captain", and including a number of exaggerated pieces of line art. Their aim was to make the work feel like a parody, to which copyright law doesn't generally apply. In the process they gutted the intent of the author. |
