    Rejuvenation?? Views: 729

Ok, I've been converting a few of my old Doctor Who Monthlies into PDFs for back-up purposes and I picked one up and started flipping through it for old-time's sake. I was reading through the Matrix Data Banks from issue no. 74 and came across this...

From our overseas following, Howard T. Forbes of Ohio has a couple of questions. 1) Was William Hartnell's Doctor the first incarnation of the Doctor or just the first one covered by the series? How could he live for 700 years in one incarnation?: Yes, the William Hartnell incarnation was the first Doctor. As was stated at the time of the first rejuvenation, Time Lords live until about 1000 years old. The Hartnell Doctor was in the region of 900 years of age when rejuvenating into the Troughton Doctor of about 750 years. Do not get rejuvenation confused with regenration as were the Pertwee/Baker/Davison incarnations.

Has anyone ever heard of rejuvenation before? This sounds like something they just pulled out of their...backsides. Didn't Troughten's Doctor say in Tomb of the Cybermen that he was 400? It always seemed to me that they just bumped up his age a couple of hundred years each regeneration and we were to assume he aged a lot in the time between televised stories. Anyway, I just thought it was pretty funny and thought I'd share it.

no, I've never heard of rejuvination before. I think one of the unfortunate things about Doctor Who is that there is no "bible" as it were, and there is no official timeline. What works for a certain story or a producer is what gets used. 10 years later, it could be changed to something completely different. This sounds like the person answering the letter wanted to cover his butt and sound official.

Yeah, I agree with my friend, hdutch007... I think someone was just taking liberties. As previously mentioned, sometimes even Doctor Who producers make changes and then it may only be changed back later on... As witness in the story The Brain of Morbius where it was implied that William Hartnell was not the first incarnation of the Doctor... that he had actually regenerated previously prior to what we refer to as the first Doctor...

In my mind and I am sure most fans, Hartnell was the first Doctor and as far as rejuvenation goes... I don't know about Time Lords, but I certainly can use some of that right about now!

    Cheers,
    Louis
