(Not sure if its been mentioned anywhere else!)
Series 2 of the EDA has begun with Dead London and without (knowingly!) sticking in any spoilers, I quite like it. Paul McGann is back to the 'cheeky, witty' Doctor and Sheridan Smith is at her usual best. Clare Buckfield is back and she is her usual loveable self (well her voice, anyway!). The story is well crafted and probably would be better if it was a bit longer!
I don't know if the 8th Doctor will ever return to the monthly series, but we are actually getting more stories, per year!
Not sure if this constitutes as a spoiler, but there is a new theme.
I'll be reviewing the series on my blog, so don't forget to check it out! |

| This is great news. Thanks so much for the positive review. As a McGann fan, this only makes me even more eager to hear Dead London. |

| I need to go and finish listening to series 1. I stalled out at the fourth episode, I think. Are they doing the audio "Confidential" thing again? Beyond the Vortex or whatever it was called? |

I'm going "Full Circle" and putting my avatar back to what it was when I first joined. :)

Once I sync my iPod, I'll get a chance to listen to this one. I've had the disc for about a week before importing it last night.
All the monthly releases have been including interviews and music tracks as extras. I assume that the 50 minute story leaves enough room for such stuff as well. |

Ive got it (and put it on ebay for sale)
its good but the 50min format feels rushed. I know it brings the 8th doctor more into line with the 9th and 10th doctor.
story wise it lacks exposition and is more of a collection of narratives than a narrative itself. The acting is - as always- top notch but I do have higher hopes for the rest of this season
Not wishing to give spoilers I will leave it there
for sale here

What a bummer about the theme -- at least I say that now before I've heard it. I really like the David Arnold version that's become associated with the eighth doctor in my mind.
So how is the new theme? Who arranged it? What's it sound like? |

Bummer.
Ah well, change is hard to take.
Thanks for the info, Tin-Dog. (I enjoy your podcast, by the way, even though I'm taking a long time catching up...) |

I'm confused about something. Aren't these being broadcast on BBC7? I didn't think they'd be available to buy yet. Or were they already on BBC7 and I didn't hear about it? Or are they being sold on CD closer to broadcast date?

I thought that they may be on Radio 7 but there seems to be no plans for this... so I bought the cd.
they follow on from Radio 7 so could be on in a few years time.
looks like Charlie is.... dont want to spoil anything...
and we now have Lucie for good.... Proto-POMO-rose? |

on the theme: The remix of the theme sounds like a seventies Tom Baker era version with accents added that hint the late eighties versions. This version of the theme may be more recognizable to the casual listener than the Arnold version.
on the story: This was quite an interesting choice to start out this series. The nature of the plot of the story lends it to disjointed set pieces.
on the extras: The CD Extras does not carry the label "Back to the Vortex", but the interviews are interesting for the most part.
on Charlie: < spoiler >At the end of The Girl that Never Was we see Charlie picked up by the Sixth Doctor.< / spoiler > |

Please, God, let me find the STOP button. What in the name of hell was that? "Dead London", I mean. Absolutely hated that. I didn't pay for the Doctor/Sophie show. Where's the fallout from the end of the last series? Are we really supposed to believe that Lucie, to the extent of the paltry time that she was with the Doctor at all in this episode, is just fine with the hand the Time Lords have dealt her? She's a happy time traveller now? Did JNT commission this script from the Great TARDIS in the Sky? Even if I did have access to a decent recording microphone, it wouldn't even be worth reviewing properly.
Probably won't stop me, though; I've not had a good bile fest in a while. About the only thing I agreed with was that ending line, "Only the darkness is dead"? I felt pretty dead as I listened to this thing in the dark.
And, as if the completely silly, continuity-disrespectful story weren't enough, we lost the best version of the theme song ever committed to an audio file.
In charity, I suppose one could choose to believe this wasn't the first story of the season. Maybe something's coming later in this season that links us to the BBC7 season. As a mid-season story, it's a failed experiment; as a season-opener it's just depressing. Either way, I've just bought little more than an awfully expensive new coaster. Rather like a McCoy DVD in that way. |

| | NEVER! I still love Lucie. I'm just not overly fond of Pat Mills. And I'm wavering on Nick Briggs. I hear the next story is a big improvement, though. Apparently quite funny. What's odd is that I'm suddenly more interested in Charlie than ever, after the smashing "The Condemned" . . . |
