The BBC DW website has posted news that a series of new 8th Doctor adventures will begin on BBC7 (digital radio channel) on New Year's Eve 2006. Looks interesting. The site has also confirmed that the Sarah Jane Adventures spin-off will start soon, with a 60 minute special to be aired in early 2007.
Just thought you might like the heads-up. |

Yeah, I noticed that on the BBC website today. Interestingly there is a new assistant, and no Charlie.

| I wonder if these adventures are going to be merely set in a different time, with no explanation about whether they are before or after Charlie's time with the Doctor. It's certainly interesting that they're not ones previously released by Big Finish so it's a mark of the BBC's confidence in BF that they've commissioned new adventures for Paul McGann. I also wonder if this fits in with Nicholas Briggs comments on the latest BF Audio magazine about the forthcoming shakeup in format for the 2007 Doctor Who adventures (ie shorter adventures, tightening up the plots, only 3 parts to a story with a bonus stand-alone short story on each release). |

The titles for the episodes are up as well:
# Blood Of The Daleks by Steve Lyons
# Horror Of Glam Rock by Paul Magrs
# Immortal Beloved by Jonathan Clements
# Phobos by Eddie Robson
# No More Lies by Paul Sutton
# Human Resources by Eddie Robson
"Horror of Glam Rock" = (insert hair band joke here)

Just thought I'd ~{BUMP}~ this thread as this series starts tonight on BBC7.
If you're unable to listen live it is repeated and I suspect it will also be available for a week on the 'listen again' service.
Details here
This is followed by Beyond the Vortex which goes 'behind the scenes of this new radio series'.

Listened to this one though BBC7's Listen Again service. It was a pretty good set up for a part one of two. I can't wait for part two to air. These are also being released one per month (Jan.-Aug.) on CD, so those who want the disc in their grubby mitts can get them from your favorite retailer or directly from Big Finish.

A lot of fun, and it's nice to hear Paul McGann play off someone new for a change.
The writers of Big Finish must've been amazed when they saw "The Runaway Bride", though - both adventures start with a similar theme: mysterious woman appears in Tardis. |

We are now four weeks in to this run and these adventured are really very good,
I hope everyone who wants to is getting chance to listen to them. Free as well! I've just finished Horror of Glam Rock and it was excellent; I love Bernard Cribbins.
I've got Immortal Beloved in my iPod ready for the car journey tomorrow. |

P.S. It is of course possible that this message is a trap. If it is I can deal with it. P.P.S. I'm leaving this note in case I can't!

Once again:
For those who want to catch Phobos try BBC7 | Listen Again | Sunday and click on Listen Again next to 1800 Doctor Who. Next week will have the next episode... Real Player (or Windows Media Player) is required.

I REALLY enjoyed Blood of the Daleks but I've since stopped listening. I was too late to catch the third story and I'm too stubborn to listen to them out of order.
I plan on buying them anyways. I get all the McGann ones. |

Okay, I volunteer for the RealPlayer stupid newbie award.
I tried to go listen to the Doctor Who programs on BBC7, and I had to install a new version of RealPlayer. (I even never used the old one unless something I clicked on started it up for me automagically, so I don't know a thing about the program.) The install went fine. Yay.
Now I can't figure out how to save the BBC7 program so I can listen to it later if I don't get to it during its online availability window. Am I missing something obvious?

The first answer is to wait for the discs to be released by Big Finish. They will release part 2 of Blood this month, with the rest following one per month.
The second answer is to use a program like Audio Hijack Pro on the Mac to record the stream. There should be a number of programs out there that are similar. (Real Player doesn't allow you to save the stream because the content providers usually don't want you to have a free copy.)
Failing that, there is always the trusty cassette recorder...

Ah, but if I could afford to do that, I wouldn't be trying to listen online in the first place. [If there were an emoticon for "empty pockets" I'd insert it here.]

a-HA! [cautiously removing dunce cap] That explains why I couldn't find a "save" function anywhere. How annoying. That's like the television networks not letting you to record programs for timeshifting purposes just in case you wanted to bootleg them.
I'm a bit insulted that content providers are pre-judging me as a thief, but I'm relieved that I'm not as stupid as I thought I was.
