| So... wait a minute... which Doctor was actually in the Time War? Was it Paul McGann's Doctor or Sylvester McCoy? So if they were going to make a Time War movie which Doctor would be in it? |

This one is up to interpretation.
In "Rose" Eccelston checks his face and makes a remark about the way he looks, which makes one think he recently regenerated. As we know, all of CE's stories happen after the Time War.
So your logical choices are 1 - it happened during the McGann incarnation and it could have been connnected to his regeneration into CE. Or...
2. It happened after his CE regeneration but he hadn't had a chance to see what his new face looed like because he was too busy fighting in or avoiding the Time War.
I guess until we see an actual story, we can only make assumptions. |

For a real technicality, I believe somewhere RTD said that "Genesis of the Daleks" is the "first shots" of the Time War, so it's every Doctor from the 4th onward is the "Doctor of the Time War" (even if they didn't see the big picture)

My guess is that it happened as McGann, and his regeneration happened as he recovered from the catastrophic last battle/blow that destroyed everything. He escaped in the TARDIS barely, and regenerated into Eccleston, where he went to Earth to follow the Nestenes and stop them from taking advantage of the situation to invade the Earth.
He was in such a hurry he hadn't yet had a chance to glance in a mirror.

| I was just watching one of the new ones again where The Doctor say something about seeing the "Fall of Arcadia" and "Someday I may be able to get over it" or something - and that got me thinking, are they going to show us that someday or is that some battle that's already encountered in an audio/book adventure or something? |

I would say it had to be after the events of the TVM as the Doctor was returning the remains of the Master to Gallifrey. My understanding is that Gallifrey and all the Time Lords were destroyed in the Time War, so it had to have been Paul McGann or Christopher Eccleston. |

| Ever since the series started referencing The Time War, I thought it might have been the 7th Doctor that fired the first shot when he destroyed Skaro in 'Remembrance of The Daleks'. |

Exactly my thoughts...but I think that after the regeneration and before the mirror scene in Rose, he wandered from one disaster to another. Titantic and such, trying to kill himself. Drawn to death and thus too full of grief to even think to look at himself until just that moment. |

| I think he regenerated into the the doctor before or during the time war. if you watch the first episode of the new series,(rose) in the scene when rose is talking to the guy in the shed he shows her a picture of the doctor with the family that didn't board the titanic and if you look closely you see that the 9th doctor is wearing the 8th doctors clothes. |

| I'm not sure we'll get these answers. I thought at 1st that the War was just to distance new series from old. I hope that's changing, if the "major spoilers" thread is at all accurate. |

I'd have to go with this line of thought as well. I noticed the same thing in the first episode, and the fact that The Doctor has rarely, by my recollection, changed his dress to fit into a particular time period adds further credence to the idea. |

The ninth Doctor's clothes are similar in the pre-Titanic picture, but not quite the same as the eight Doctor's. The photo is on the BBC site.
There have been a number of instances where the Doctor dresses up, for example The Reign of Terror, The Romans, and others. The third Doctor even wore a dress!

| Yeah, in true historicals, the Doctor has often conceded to local fashion. Hartnell definitely enjoyed time-specific gear, even to the point of purchasing it. Even Davison was seen to enjoy a turn in something appropriate in "Black Orchid" (course, it helped that his own outfit actually kinda was appropriate). |

| Just to add to the specific point of the thread, I think that the BBC 7 radio series absolutely takes McCoy out of the running as a possible incarnation during the height of the Time War. This Radio 7 season, along with the telemovie, gives us the only BBC-broadcast DW we have so close to "Rose", and yet pre-dating the extinction of the Time Lords. Now, I suppose, it's still possible that he regenerated into the Ninth Doctor prior to the full start of the Time War, but that's trickier to decide . . . |
