Edit:
NB: The Mirror story contains a minor spoiler. |

Or at the current exchange rate:-
$1,961,220.88 US
I really wish I could afford the air fare to the US because with the pound currently worth nearly 2 US dollars and general lower cost of things in America I'd be rich!
Not to leave our friends in Canada out that £1m is:-
$2,276,840.60 CAD |

I think all the UK/US companies are too lazy to do the conversion and they just sell items in the UK in pounds for what they sell the item in the US in dollars. I've paid $19.99 for CD box sets at the Virgin Megastore in Manhattan that I see retailing for £19.99 in the UK. Strange.

| I'm not so sure I trust this story any more than the ones that were circulating late last year about his departure. Its attribution is very shaky. "One source"? Who the hell is "one source"? They throw Russell's name in there to make you think it's somehow comin' from him, but the only thing directly attributed to him is his saying that Freema's doing a good job as the companion. |

When you think the cast of Friends were getting 1 million dollars an episode at the end - it doesn't sound that big a deal.

More episodes per year and huge sales of commercials for the program make it easier to see the Friends cast making that as the network was raking in the dough hand over fist. It is a big deal for the BBC to pay such a salary, since it shows that it values the program and the actor's performance.

You're right of course - but they were getting a million EACH - and for EACH show - which was what? 22 minutes long?
So thats 1 million every 3 or 4 minutes of screen time.

But the six Friends actors presented a unified front in the contract renegotiations and if they lost them all, they would lose the cash cow, so the network had to bow to the actors' demands. I'm not justifying it, just pointing out the differences with Doctor Who & the BBC. If David Tennant made outrageous demands on salary, then we would probably get a regeneration scene...

I think you are right there - without wishing to put off bidders for the 'Captain Jack & Empty Child' set in the 'Support this Forum thread' I paid 10 UK pounds which is about 18 dollars (plus there will be shipping costs) - Anyway I hope it's not the case that this set retails for only 10 dollars in the States!
Cheers, daveac
PS - but it is in a good cause |

If it was just greed, I should have been paying $40 for the tunes. |
