[Quote  by:  DarthSkeptical] Heh. I live where my local broadcst of some first-run American shows has been pre-empted for—wait for it—coverage of women's water polo in which the outcome has no bearing whatsoever on national rankings or tournaments.

I read that about 15 minutes ago and I'm still chuckling now.

I must admit I'm surprised that something as simple as a TV program (admittedly our favourite) being put back a little has generated such a heated debate!

Whenever there was football on the TV, my mum would always "bloody football again!" to which I'd smile and say "I know mum".

The simple fact is loads (millions actually, literally) of people want to watch football in general, and FA Cup Semi Finals in particular. If they didnt, the BBC wouldn't push one of the jewels in their crown back by half hour an hour.

There have been lots of "just stick it on another channel" arguments; but then they'd (obviously) be on at the same time. Before everyone says "then video it", that wouldnt work either (at least not for the BBC, because loads of people simply wouldn't bother). If you're in the viewing figures business, and you've got FA Cup Semi Finals and Doctor Who to show (having paid MILLIONS for one, and seemingly having hung your dramatic reputation on the other), what exactly are you supposed to do???

And I (for one) am not remotely complaining, because I want to see both.

    Come on you 'Orns.

Not giving the score away at Half Time - but it's NOT a draw at the moment.

    So we could be OK.

Score's looking good for a quick exit; Man Utd up by 3 with 5 minutes left in regulation. Even though Man U has more penalties than Watford, there's really no point to a long extra time with that kinda lead.

    Roll on, "Gridlock".

    Games over.

Not a draw - so Dr Who should go out on time.

Too late for me as I have just a little social life and am out during the middle of this later episode.

    Cheers, daveac

I'm gobsmacked that there was that much extra time. Pointless. Totally pointless.

The great irony of yesterday for me was that due to the late start for Doctor Who I obtained the episode a bit later and as a result had to watch the Toronto FC match on a slight delay on my PVR. So Doctor Who delayed the football!
