I know it's early to discuss, but I've got a small question that could be seen as a SPOILER so read on if you don't mind the slight pre-episode discussion.
AnyWHO, on the bbc Doctor Who site, they've sort of a reminder about episode six on Saturday. You can see it here.
What you'll notice is a picture of John Simm. Does that mean that Mr. Saxon will be showing his face in this episode? Has anyone heard? |

I don't think (from the wording) that he will appear in that ep. My best guess is a faux political add that will follow The Lazerus Experiment. For those UK viewers please watch close after the ep. |

| I'm loathe to join a conversation that is by its nature spoiler-y, so I'm just going to post this one thing and run like hell. I'm encouraged in advance of broadcast that this is the first episode of the season that's gotten a Fear Factor of 5 from the kids. |

This is a spoiler only if you've not seen the preview for the episode which aired at the end of Evolution of the Daleks. But I'll try to spoilerize it by color just in case.
All right. Enough with the monster arachnids, RTD! First the giant spider in Runaway Bride, now a giant scorpion in Lazarus Experiment. Isn't there anything else available to creep out the kiddies? Giant leeches? Evil clowns? The Library Police?
Just my pre-episode whine.

I think the original script didn't call for something this complex, but The Mill wanted to show off what it could do. The context will show us whether it works or not. |

The Mr Saxon references are back with the return to present day earth.
Quite a few laugh out loud moments including the Doctor's classic conflict with the companions mother and nice to hear the phrase "reverse the polarity" for nostagla purposes!

Woo-hoo!!!! Best episode of the series so far and the 'special thing' at the end of the episode was very good!
Loved the nod to the third Doctor as well and their may have been a Spinal Tap reference as well. |

Really good - it more than made up for my complete disappointment with last weeks episode.
SPOILERS IN THIS POST.........
Although the visuals were very much modern era & RTD, the actual story had a real classic serial feel to it (and it wasn't just a neutron flow)!
I've got one criticism; The Lazurus Monster would've been a lot better if it had just been a monster, without his real sized human face on an otherwise giant body - that was just daft.
I'd fallen for Martha anyway, but Martha in evening dress was particularly nice! The scene in the chamber where The Doctor is on his hands and knees was either innocently or (more likely) deliberately very subtly saucy. I'm liking Martha's familly too (I'm at least warming to them).
And the end teaser for the next episode was longer - and it looks like it's going to a GOOD one!
Aside from number 2, this was my episode of the series to date.
Mr Saxon Indeed.

Surely they can't pack that much amazing stuff into one episode? It's got to be a trailer for the whole second half of the series - not that that takes anything away from it! I actually can't wait for the next episode now! |

I just assumed it was for next weeks; but on reflection, what you've said would make sense - and someone popped up who I wasnt expecting until we were near the end of the current series..... |

| Sorry to disapoint any of you but it was a trailer for the rest of the series not next week It featured characters who are only in the last few episodes. Plus it said 'Coming Soon' rather than 'Next Time'. |

SPOILER ALERT!!!
I agree with everyone. Very pleasantly surpised this week. A really great story, excellent cast and script and a fab looking trailer for 'coming soon' - bloody Eurovision!
One criticism (well two). I thought the last third was a bit disappointing as it really just ended up being a chase with a big monster - the kind of thing new who seems to fall back on to fill out an episode. When Lazerus was wheeled off in the ambulance I was really hoping the story was going to take a new direction .. may be involving that really exciting sub-plot with the mysterious stranger and the whole Saxon thing. But sadly, it was not to be. Cue more deaths and more running and shouting.
Much better performance from Tennant as well this week. A lot calmer, more thoughtful, less breathless, and no Evolution of the Daleks style gritted teeth and shouting.
My only other criticism was the continued reverence Martha has for 'THE DOCTOR'. I was hoping she would be a bit more dismissive of the doctor than Rose, but both seem to be acting like love sick puppies. I really did like Martha (and her family) here, but I miss the Martha who, upon hearing the doctors name said: 'where I come from you have to earn that title.'
It just seems a bit too soon to be swooning over him, and I would have liked a different dynamic explored this season. Its almost as if RTD has decided that a female companion must fall in love with the Doctor as a default and I'm not sure I'm all that interested this time round. I wonder if he would demand the same of a male companion?
Anyway, a great return to form. The first episode I've really enjoyed this season since Smith and Jones! Now, what I can do with myself for two weeks ... anyone? |
