Check it out on my Doctor Who Fun page.
There's a picture, merged together from two separate screen grabs, showing the maximum area of the page shown on camera.
So the bottom left... do you think that's Pertwee or Troughton?
I think it's Pertwee, but the darker hair makes him look vaguely like Troughton. But it's curly, and the nose is definitely Pertwee.
Sean.

I would say that the bottom left is Colin Baker despite the darkness of the hair. That's never a Pertwee nose, it's a Colin Baker nose-eyes combo. And if you have a look at pictures of Colin, his hair can indeed look dark in certain lighting, whereas Pertwee's mop of gray-white hair is unmistakable.

Clockwise from top left:
McCoy
McGann
Hartnell
Davison
Pertwee
(That's not Colin Baker. It looks nothing like him. The artist captured Pertwee's eyes and nose perfectly, but darkened the hair.)

Anyone have a screencap of the two docs standing side by side. From the book there were apparently either McGann or Hartnell standing next to Davison.
**Edit
Sorry, the picture in question has the phrase Plastic Men circled above it, so I am sure that this is the Autons and not what I was speaking of earlier.

I utterly and thoroughly disagree. I don't think it looks a LICK like Pertwee and I'd love for the artist to come forward and vindicate me! I'd also post an example photo except, I can never get pasting stuff into posts to match - I meant to say, work, anyhow - below is my hastily created evidence I humbly submit

Notice also that Pertwee has arched eyebrows, set higher above his eyes than Colin.
It is my opinion as an artist (see my tom baker drawing in the gallery *cough cough*) that the sketch in question is clearly Colin Baker. *removes monocle and sits down* |

According to the Fact file on the BBC website "Clearly visible are the Seventh, Eighth and First incarnations; the hairlines of the Sixth and Fifth Doctors are also just visible."

Whelp... it's Colin alright. Shannon Sullivan (in radw - he really knows his stuff) posted an image of each Doc and the publicity photo each one was drawn from (though I'm now convinced that the artist did Colin Baker's nose wrong and his hair darker on purpose so he could blend the two Bakers.)

That is way cool. I was going to try to source out the reference photos myself, but I hadn't had time to do so yet. Now I don't have to... Thank you Shannon Sullivan... good job! Thanks for sharing it here, Sean.
At first I thought the bottom left image was Tom Baker, but then with all the talk here about it being Colin Baker, I thought it may have been from an early head-shot of him prior to him donning the 6th Doctor's outfit. I remember a black & white portrait of him that magazines and articles used when he was first announced as the new Doctor. I recall that his hair looked darker in this photo. So, I was speculating that the artist could have used that photo as a reference, but I can see from the above, it was not that photo. Perhaps you are right Sean, perhaps it is supposed to be a combination of both Bakers.
It looks like there are still couple other drawings of faces on the top of the page, which is cropped out from being seen in this episode. I wonder which Doctors could also be represented in this journal page.
Cheers,
Louis |
