With RTD welcoming him "aboard the TARDIS" does this mean he is going to be a series regular? A companion of sorts? Or just a guest star for episode 10?
Cheers,

I heard he is to play a villain, but this I haven't fact checked yet.

Yeah, I heard the same... that he will be playing a "dark role" so to speak...
Often in this news articles and press releases they will use the term, so-and-so is joining the cast... when in fact, they are just guest starring... not what I would really term as "joining the cast" if they are only doing it for one episode.
Both are technically correct, I suppose...
I am not all that familiar with Peter Kay, but he must be very big in the UK because this has received a great deal of press so far.
Cheers,

Peter Kay is a very popular comedian over here. He has been around for years and got really big just a couple of years ago with his humourous observations on life.
He did a turn on the Royal Variety Performance a few years back armed with a tape recorder and did his whole routine about what the lyrics of most pop songs sound like. As a result I still think that the last line before the chorus in Sister Sledge's 'We Are Family' is "...when you make love in a femi-dom", or that Celine Dion sings "I believe that the hotdogs go on".
He is also reputed to have come up with the following list of "universal truths" which are scarily accurate and I think would hold true in the US as well as in the UK:
1. Triangular sandwiches taste better than square ones.
2. At the end of every party there is always a girl crying.
3. One of the most awkward things that can happen in a pub is when your pint-to-toilet cycle gets synchronised with a complete stranger.
4. You've never quite sure whether it's ok to eat green crisps.
5. Everyone who grew up in the 80's has entered the digits 55378008 into a calculator.
6. Reading when you're drunk is horrible.
7. Sharpening a pencil with a knife makes you feel really manly.
8. You're never quite sure whether it's against the law or not to have a fire in your back garden.
9. Nobody ever dares make cup-a-soup in a bowl.
10. You never know where to look when eating a banana.
11. Its impossible to describe the smell of a wet cat.
12. Prodding a fire with a stick makes you feel manly.
13. Rummaging in an overgrown garden will always turn up a bouncy ball.
14. You always feel a bit scared when stroking horses.
15. Everyone always remembers the day a dog ran into your school.
16. The most embarrassing thing you can do as schoolchild is to call your teacher mum or dad.
17. The smaller the monkey the more it looks like it would kill you at the first given opportunity.
18. Some days you see lots of people on crutches.
19. Every bloke has at some stage while taking a pee flushed half way through and then raced against the flush.
20. Old women with mobile phones look wrong!
21. Its impossible to look cool whilst picking up a Frisbee.
22. Driving through a tunnel makes you feel excited.
23. You never ever run out of salt.
24. Old ladies can eat more than you think.
25. You can't respect a man who carries a dog.
26. There's no panic like the panic you momentarily feel when you've got your hand or head stuck in something.
27. No one knows the origins of their metal coat hangers.
28. Despite constant warning, you have never met anybody who has had their arm broken by a swan.
29. The most painful household incident is wearing socks and stepping on an upturned plug.
30. People who don't drive slam car doors too hard
31. You've turned into your dad the day you put aside a thin piece of wood specifically to stir paint with.
32. Everyone had an uncle who tried to steal their nose.
33. Bricks are horrible to carry.
34. In every plate of chips there is a bad chip.
35. Who was the first person to look at a cow and think "I'll just squeeze these dangly things and drink whatever comes out."?

Hey!
Very funny list. Most of these things are true over here, too.
Would someone please explain to the German girl (me) who grew up in the 90s why anyone would enter the digits 55378008 into a calculator?
Thanks. |

It has to do with spelling out words with the numbers and reading then upside down. I remember 71077345 as what we used to enter all the time... as we were all 58008!

And to go along with 71077345, there was 7105534 as well. It's funny how simple little things like that were entertaining at the time. Funny or sad, I am not sure now.

If anyone wants to check out Peter Kay's humour - aside from his stand-up shows (which focuses largely on observational comedy from a Northern perspective) he did two series of a show set in a working men's club called "Phoenix Nights". I don't know what they are called in the US but a working men's club is basically a social club with a membership generally (but not exclusively) made up of people from a particular trade union. People usually meet there to have a drink and watch some entertainment, play Bingo and the family will usually pick the place to hold wedding receptions, funeral wakes, parties, etc.
Phoenix Nights is based in one of those places that we might not necessarily hang out at but we've all heard of and been in at least once in our lives - and therein lies its humour.

P.S. Another way to catch Peter Kay's voice is to watch the Wallace & Gromit movie, where Peter provides the voice of the policeman. |
