On the returning theme of the Doctor as a 'god' I didn't mind the family adopting himself and Donna as 'house gods' at the end of the story - but I didn't see the need for during their rescue - the bright white light, out-stretched arm and the 'come with me' line.

Ok because my reply is about to go a bit off topic I'll reel it in first by asking - did anybody think the theme sounded different again from the one used in Partners in Crime?
StJohnny - isn't that that weird street magician? There was a hilarious parody of him somewhere but I can't think of who the comedy team was that did it.
Daveac - I just googled "british mouse furniture maker" and found it! it's
Robert (Mouseman) Thompson

Magician? No! Weird? Very much yes! I just remembered the eye on his hand and the ever so dull interview he did on GMTV with Eamon Holmes.
I'm not surprised he's been made fun of!
And yes, i also found the theme song different. |

I really enjoyed this episode.
The sequence between the daughter and the other seer was just great, with each one just upping the tension with what they knew of the Doctor.
I think the bit about "she has returned" would've worked better had we not already seen Rose in "Partners in Crime", and I like how they left the whole bit about something being on Donna's back to be forgotten if you weren't paying attention.
Somebody will have to point out the reference to The Romans, as I've actually not seen that one.

Well assuming that Rose is who they were talking about, there are those Rani rumors, personally I hope we'll see the return of the terrible Zodin |

I'm also not sure about the new re-mixed theme tune. I thought it had lost some of its eerie qualityand become more ...well "poppy" I suppose. However, my six-year-old daughter immediately ran from the room screaming that she was scared when the music came on so it seems to being doing the job with the new generation (off topic I know but she sat and watched androids of Tara with me yesterday and loved it - princesses, horses and K-9!).
A question, again off-topic very sorry but this is the very first forum I've ever been a part of and I don't know how to put those lovely quote boxes from other people into my posts. Tried yesterday and only ended up posting my name at the beginning of this thread with no message whatsoever. Doh! |

Fixed your other post...
You got hit by a double whammy, not only did you delete/omit the close QUOTE tag (the forum can't handle messed up QUOTE tags), you also got the put post at the top of thread forum bug that sometimes crops up here from time to time.
One just presses the QUOTE button on the post you want to quote, and be careful not to mess with the tags unless you are confident you can get them right. Just one problem, and you get a blank post, though the text is still there and an admin or moderator can fix it in most cases. |

In 'The Romans', there is a scene when the Doctor is talking to Nero. There is a table with a map of Rome on it and the Doctor is standing with his back towards the table. The Doctor has his eyeglasses in his hands and his hands are behind his back to conceal them from Nero. One of the lenses catches the suns light in just the right way to concentrate it on the map and the maps catches fire. Nero, who was threatening the Doctor with a death in the arena suddenly changes his mind and gratefully thanks the Doctor for giving him the idea to burn Rome. |

I rewatched 'The Romans' last night and there is a scene where the Doctor forbids Vicki from interfering in history, but then later, Vicki scolds the Doctor for interfering and giving Nero the idea of burning Rome. It was kind of a nice parallel with Doctor in 'The Fire of Pompeii'.
There were some times during 'The Fires of Pompeii' when I could hear the first Doctors' voice saying those same about interfering in history. |

Here's a couple of insane thoughts to chew on:
What if it was Rose who picked up the Master's ring at the end of Last of the Time Lords ?
What if it was Romana or Susan ( or the terrible Zodin ) that was the mysterious woman that's coming ? |
|
I was thinking more of Sarah Jane, since she is always grabbing alien artifacts |
