| I haven't managed to watch Fires of Pompeii yet, but the latest commentary has just arrived in iTunes and it's only 29 minutes long. How does that work?? |
|
P.S. It is of course possible that this message is a trap. If it is I can deal with it. P.P.S. I'm leaving this note in case I can't!

I thought they were no longer able to distribute the commentaries on iTunes. I thought it was streaming commentaries only... unless this has changed again.

The 30 minute edit is what is broadcast on BBC 7 on Sunday at 18:30. Last week, the uncut 47 minute version was later replaced by the 30 minute version.
I believe that the midnight repeat is the full length version
I think they are totally confused with this... as am I!!! |

I know I am completely confused. So the BBC are showing an edited down version of Doctor Who on BBC 7 each week? What's the point of that... and how can these stories hold up with such massive edits? Why? - is the greater question.

BBC 7 is radio. They are broadcasting (not showing) a cut down of the commentary at 1830 after the 1800 Big Finish episode. I think they transmit the full one on the repeat after midnight...
I would assume that the BBC 3 repeats have the full commentary on the Red Button, but someone in the UK would have to confirm this... |

I thought that BBC 7 was radio... but after your posting that they were broadcasting an edited version of the episode... I assumed that perhaps this was a different BBC 7 (on satellite or something) showing them. I didn't know they were cutting them down to audio-only episodes for radio. I knew BBC 7 did the McGann stuff... I hadn't realize they were repackaging their television content for radio as well.
So the commentaries are for the edited down radio version of the episodes.

No episodes on radio, just the commentaries... |

| I'm completely baffled by this. I think in the interests of sanity I'll give 'em a miss! |

That seems to be rather dumb to give us a 30 minute commentary for a 45 minute episode. |

Oh, they recorded a full commentary, they just edited it to fit the 30 minute time slot available on BBC 7.
I read that starting with the next episode, they should be full length, but I'll believe it when I hear it. |

I found the full version of the commentary that somebody recorded on their own and has made available via bittorrent:
* link removed—sorry *
I'm not sure on the sound quality, as I haven't listened to it yet, but it's better than nothing. |

Well that was a bit of a 3am idea. Hopefully things will be back to normal next week. |
