Things I'd like to track throughout this series Views: 951

Let's keep this thread for discussions of dialog that may be clues/hints throughout this series.

    For example,

    (1) there's something on your back (to Donna)
    (2) your song is going to end soon (the Ood to the Dr.)

Please feel free to discuss these things. I am curious what everyone picks up on, and what your interpretation of their meaning is

Well, I suppose the most obvious one is Rose popping up throughout the series (well, a couple times at least so far).

    And... now there's Jenny.

    Cheers,
    Louis

    (3) Rose - return
    (4) Where have the bees gone?
    (5) the "loss" of worlds
    (6) Mentions of Venus - in at least 2 eps
    (7) Jenny - Jenny Who? Maybe not. Glad she has other work to keep her busy.

    anymore?

    * My moneys not on the doctor regenerating but on the docotr AND donnas song ending. ie she will not make it out of this seaon in one peace

There was picture of DT in the London Lite (free paper for commuters) last week standing in a street with fake snow filming this Years Xmas Special, so I guess a regeneration is off the cards this season.

Regarding recurring themes, I notice RTD likes making his characters into immortals (Jack and Jenny in DW, Owen in Torchwood).

If half the art of survival is running away, the other half is knowing when to keep a straight face.

Wasn;t there 'a storm coming' at the end of "Fear Her"?
    That amounted to nothing!
Maybe a few of these are red herrings too?

    -Shadow Proclamation
    -Medusa Cascade

I read some major spoilers on io9.com that address some of these very observations (I won't say which)... I probably shouldn't have done that to myself!

Did you say "74,384,338 to 1 against"? That's my lucky number!

Technically, Atmos was a recurrent thing.

"I think of myself as ambitious in casting terms, and I know that Bonnie [Langford] has the potential to make the part totally unirritating . . ." JNT, 1986

I would suggest that the recurrent theme isn't really about Jenny-as-daughter, but the Doctor-as-father. The prefiguring dialogue never mentions anything about even the gender of the offspring, but the fact of the Doctor's parental status.

I personally wonder whether Martha's engagement isn't set up for something as well. Certainly, it's a contrast to Donna's luck with men, and that whole little talk at the end of "The Doctor's Daughter" between Martha and Donna makes me believe it might be significant. She's essentially saying that one day a man might take Donna away from the Doctor. And given Donna's desire to get married, it's just possible that this might have something to do with Donna's eventual departure. On Martha's side, I think it's a way of re-establishing Tom, who may yet re-appear.

    In a related vein:

"We're not a couple"/"We're not together" is, I think, going to end up being more than just a gag. Even if it's not, though, it's definitely a recurring thing.

And then there's Rose's return, and the romantic implications that has for the Doctor.

So I think in general we can say one of the themes might be "Love TARDIS Style" , "All the companions' men", "3 Weddings and a Doctor" or somesuch.

And we have the recurring theme of Doctor as a figure of myth...

The Fires of Pompeii Doctor and Donna as family house gods
Planet of the Ood Doctor, Donna friend added to the Ood song
The Doctor's Daughter Base your civilization on the man who never would...

The Satan Pit "The stuff of legends"
and other instances in the prior three series...

Daleks don't accept apologies! YOU WILL BE EXTERMINATED!
