I'm just gonna come right out and say it.
I didn't get excited when I saw Martha in the preview for the next episode!
I mean, I liked Martha in series 3! But maybe seeing her in Torchwood... she's so curt & matter of fact or... there's just something about how businesslike her character has developed that I didn't care for.
What does everybody else think about Martha's Return? |

I'd rather have Zoe return - like SJS did in 'School Reunion'
I mean if where having a formula - introduce new companion, then a history story, then off-world etc. etc.
Why not one 'old series' companion per series? Unless we're counting Bernard Cribbins as a returning companion?

I liked Martha. It's just that I find Donna so much more interesting - the bits I like, I love; the bits I don't like, I hate. But all this just makes her much more interesting and real.
Martha - well, she's does what it says on the tin. |

I'd say that having Martha in Torchwood does take away some of the excitement about seeing her back. I feel sort of like we've done the whole "here's Martha" thing already.
Having Martha return makes me wonder how they will justify NOT involving Jack and the TW team in whatever happens... |

| I think it's all a bunch of Tosh. Really. RTD doesn't know what to do. Martha was clearly a mistake from the beginning. The actress is up enough but she really isn't great and the character developed well enough in HUMAN NATURE and FAmiLY OF BLOOD, however...in TORCHWOOD, she's sort of...blah and boring. One of the TW gang without the emotions. I mean Owen saves her life and unless I"m very wrong, she doesn't even say thank you, just makes reasons why they should keep Owen dead. Her "Doctor, it's me, Martha and I"m bringing you back to Earth!" is so AWFUL it's beyond bad. WHat did I expect, the writer of this two part Sontaran story is the writer of that AWFUL Daleks in Manhattan two parter. Martha was pretty good in 42 and Utopia but really she's....not great. I don't think they should bring back Rose either...they did a great job of having her leave in DD and to negate that...is just wrong. |

I just think its too early. I'd like more time with just the Doctor and Donna, maybe bring Martha back in episode 6 would be better.
And, am I wrong but is she only staying around for a few episodes and not the rest of the series? From previews for the Agatha Christie episode, it did't look like Martha was involved, but I'm just not certain. |

Well, we have seen one complete story with Martha back... But it is hard to judge it as for a good deal of the screen time, it is not really Martha. So, yes, I thought it wasn't the same and Donna over-shadowed her a great deal in the last two episodes with the Sontarans, but as I said, it is hard to judge her in this story as we only see her clone interacting with the other characters for a good deal of this story, not the real Martha.
We will see what she brings to this week's episode.
Cheers,

| I was a big fan of Martha, and liked where they took her character, but for one i'm not so happy she's back this season (perhaps next season would have been better). In my opinion it detracts from the relationship building with Donna and the Doctor and suggests a lack of confidence in where they are taking that realtionship, great that Freema is getting work and we all know where this is building...+ 1 + 1, party in the TARDIS anyone? I like that she's no longer fangirling all over the place, and once more has reasons to not hang around, but short of throwing her in there to give the Doctor someone else to save I don't see the point. She was a Maguffin in the last eps and I doubt very little else other than a damsel in distress in the next. |
