Ive just remembered something about the title of next weeks ep.
the forest of suicides is from Dantes inferno. It's the place on the map of Hell. you know.. circles. etc... where all the people who have killed themselves go.. BUT it is possible to leave this place. but only through sacrifice.
hmm... people... trees.. leaves... return... a great title. |

I wonder if the fact that they are in the "biography" section of the library has anything to do with the way that people were "saved" by the library computer.... |
|
Did you say "74,384,338 to 1 against"? That's my lucky number!

Ok. Against my better judgement, I'm reading through the thread. I just hope that there is nothing more spoilery than speculation.
[Quote by: timeflight] I personally think that River Song (the woman who has a sonic screwdriver) is the little girl! Might be wrong though |
|
I was thinking the little girl was somehow the computer, similar to the AI in the first Resident Evil movie. Of course, that could be because Colin Salmon was in the episode. He was the guy who got diced by the security laser in Resident Evil.
| [Quote by: mpe] I was thinking "saved" along the lines of "saved game". So it's just a case of finding out the restore command to get Donna (and all the others) back. Probably without them realising anything has happened. |
|
I also think the "saved" people are the saved ghost images of the people who died. But if that's the case, I would think they don't have bodies to be returned to. I don't know what this would mean for Donna. I know she can't really be dead, but it really hit me when it happened. My original theory was that the people the girl (Cal?) was interacting with were the saved people.
[Quote by: spoonmerlin]
The Little girl is the computer AI for the library. (this I think is pretty obvious)
...
I have a feeling River Song will die and this will be the doctor's song ending. |
|
Welcome aboard, SpoonMerlin. Good, I'm not alone in thinking the girl is the AI. And great catch on the River Song, "song is ending" connection. I didn't think of that at all.
| [Quote by: Sabalon]As for the girl, I would have thought it pretty obvious that she is part of the AI for the library...the concept of the communicator having a touch of the person after they die was brilliant...however not as brilliant as having the "bad guy" walking around with a catch phrase of "hey...who turned out the lights." |
|
Another vote for AI, good. I like how the creepy episodes had "bad guys" saying the most mundane things. "Are you my mummy?" "Hey...who turned out the lights?"
And two final thoughts...
I like how the (what I am assuming is the Doctor's) diary looked like a little TARDIS, blue with the squares.
I don't like how the psychic paper is the convenient way to "call" the Doctor to a particular location in space and time. |
|
I'm going "Full Circle" and putting my avatar back to what it was when I first joined. :)

There must be a bit more to the psychic paper messages then just what the companion and we see. I mean when someone says to a time traveler come as quick as you can it looses a bit of meaning. Maybe it only shows up clear at or around the time it was sent.
I just rewatched the episode again after seeing on another site people called the River and Doctor interaction flirting. I still do not see this, I think she is just having a bit of fun with him but she does seem very much affected by him not recognizing her. She seems to think he should know her without them having met yet which I think helps my theory of them being related.

but how about this? Iris Wyldthyme? is that a bit too off the wall?

Hmm could be Iris. As she (from listening to Big Finish audios) isn't a full Timelord/Lady. So she probably wouldnt set of his another Timelord/Lady is around senses. Also she probably wouldnt have gone to the Time War not in her bus |

Hey y'all,
sorry i havent posted sooner, i've been recovering from a mixture of the Last Round on the Underground (no Doctor Who costumes unfortunately) and a chronic stomach bug! So i managed to watch the episode today:
WOW, loved it, i didn't realise how much time had gone by until the credits rolled, and was like 'OHH, it's a two-parter!' hopefully another episode of greatness is on it's way. Only another 5 days to wait!!!
River Song intrigues me from a production point of view. I wonder if this mean's the show is taking a new direction? It's establishing DT as the Doctor, and River Song as (IMO) a future LONG term companion that the Doctor hasn't met yet (i'm still not a big fan of wishy-washy, timey wimey) and no Donna! But she seems closer to the Doctor than any other past companion!
I loved the SPOILERS aspect, Aren't the production crew just a bunch of fanboy/girls? How much did we want the Doctor to open that book, just for a peek!!!
I liked the Library planet, i liked the Vasta Nerada, I liked 'Ghosting,' I enjoyed 'Proper/Other Daves,' i fancy Ms. Evangelista very much so (she looks MUCH better in a school uniform tho!), Donna becoming a Node was a bit unsettling too, in an entertaining way, and i liked the Doctor's rappor with every character, he seemed to know exactly what to say!
Didn't much like "Who turned out the Lights" phrase. Not quite Empty Child enough, it could have been made a LOT more scary...and that's about all my bad stuffs!
I reckon the Ood were referring to River Song too, and i also think Donna's eventually doomed! (Journey's End?). We haven't had a full companion die (properly) since *cough* Adric.
I'll review properly next week
Cheers
EDIT - just saw this on wiki (love it!!!):
As shown on the BBC Doctor Who website, there are a number of books in the library that reference previous episodes. Those seen are the operating manual for the TARDIS, Origins of the Universe (Destiny of the Daleks), The French Revolution (An Unearthly Child), the Journal of Impossible Things ("Human Nature"/"The Family of Blood"), The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy (written by Douglas Adams, former Doctor Who writer and script editor), Everest in Easy Stages (The Creature from the Pit) and Black Orchid (a book first seen in the Fifth Doctor serial of the same name). |

Just realized after posting the capture above that the phone is ringing at both the Doctors end and the girls end - didn't think that was odd the first time I watched.
I'm re-watching it at the moment via the BBC iPlayer.

The first time we saw the psychic paper receive a message was new earth when the Face of Boh summoned the Doctor.
I cannot recall another time that he was summoned with the psychic paper.
River Song has a Sonic Screwdriver and a sonic blaster.
Also the young girl and her situation seem a little like the Matrix. Esp. when Dr Moon tells her that her dreams are not the real world.
just some thoughts.... |

Loved it. Hands down loved it. It was very atmospheric and I enjoy all of the mysteries that may not even be fully revealed at the end of the two-parter. As soon as Alex Kingston opened up her visor with that smile, you just knew something was different about her.
I adored the little girl. What a great side story with a little girl worried about the nightmares in her head only to be told that they are all real! I can imagine quite a few children had trouble sleeping with the lights out Saturday night.
Part of me keeps waiting for Moffat's next Boogie Man line to be...Would you like a banana? |

The first time it was clever, and unique. And let's face it, it was the Face of Boe making the call, so I could buy it, him being millions and millions of years old.
Now this new chick does it? That means it's becoming the new "Dead Lock Seal". |

Well in a way - she didn't DO it.
The message was meant for 'her' Doctor.
