OK, here's more rampant speculation: Never mind about WHO River Song is, has anyone yet talked about WHY she was part of this particular expedition in the first place? Maybe there is something interesting about the Doctor in the library that she has come to collect (from the "Biography" section)? |

Doubtful - if only due to the look on her face when she realized she was talking to Donna Noble in the flesh - like she was mortified and saddened beyond words, which only seems to further seal Donna's fate at the end of the season, since River appears to know something rather nasty (that we don't) about Donna's "future."
I like rocko's notion, though - seems likely, in a sense. Funny thing is, the whole lot of the rest of that group kind of came across as nothing but bumbling, clueless idiots - she didn't whatsoever. WHY she was with them, indeed - lol. |

Well in a way - she didn't DO it.
The message was meant for 'her' Doctor.

I know what you're saying, Dave, but unless we learn something big about who River Tamm Song is, why would she be capable of sending a psychic message across time and space to any Doctor, hers or any other? |

Do not count the River Song eggs before they hatch.
Cuz in my opinion, the lady is not what she appears.

Because she's a 51st century undercover Time Agent turned con-woman!
Jack released the nano-genes into London, Song released the Vashta Nerada into Library. They were both deals gone sour.
Either that or she's part of that LINDA group!!! |

Anybody know if Torchwood is still active in the 51st century? Perhaps she works for them. That would certainly give her access to extensive knowledge about The Doctor... |

Ok...I'm slow and just finished listening to the podcast for this week. Not my fault my commute isn't long enough to hear the whole thing (not many people's is
Anyway, a few items that came up:
Walking Space Suits - darn Louis, I had completely glanced over that until you mentioned it. As others have said, yes, the bones are just kinda stuck in there, so the skull is just rolling around. At first I was gonna say that perhaps what the Doctor did to seal his suit up with the sonic screwdriver trapped them in there, however as soon as he gets ready to go after them you see three shadows form out from under him. Could be additional ones to the one in the suit, but I agree....why would they stay in the suit? Perhaps they think it's fun or something?
Ghosting - While I think this is a cool idea and neat, I do have a slight problem with it. I could believe it a little better if the person had just died and it could be explained as the last bits of energy leaking out of their brains, but since the bugs ate all the muscle away, it seems a little more far fetched to have a conversation with the device. I can see the "Hey...who turned out the lights" repeating.
Slabs - Didn't even think about Love and Monsters. It reminded me more of the video conference the guy was having in Demolition Man with all the chairs having vid screens instead of participants. I just found the things unsettling for some reason.
Next week - I'm curious to see several things - obviously how they get Donna back, how the little girl figures in fully, the River Song thing, but mostly a bit more about the bugs (can't spell their proper name). You would think a series of organisms like that would be pretty basic. Having them possess a space suit and chase after people just seems a little beyond what one would expect from what is basically carnivorous dust and mold spores. Part of me wants them to somehow explain their motives and higher logic, and part of me wants them to remain an enemy you can't communicate with.
Oh well...that's my thought on others thoughts...really need to participate live sometime. |

| Why wouldn't she be? Taking at face value what we know so far, she travelled with the Doctor and knew of his psychic paper. Just like Captain Jack The Face of Bo. It's something in the 51st century air . . . |

[Quote by: daveac] [Quote by: cybercolin] Did she actually mean another Doctor? She could have meant an older 10th Doctor.

It seemed to be the eyes she focused on - rather than the face.
I took it to mean - that since it was she that sent the message - she knew he was the 'doctor' when they arrived but it was the 'young eyes' that she noticed.
If we believe that part of the doctor lives through each re-generation - it would be the brightness of the eyes that would indicate their current (sorry 'total' ) age as it were.
Cheers, daveac

| Assuming River Song turns out to be a "regular" being who resides on the normal plane of existence, I really do think she means an older 10th Doctor. She recognized him too immediately. And there's the bit about her knowing of Donna. The Doctor doesn't usually tell current companions about former ones. This regeneration has shown a propensity to do so, but only about ones from his immediate past. (And really, only because he met both Donna and Martha within a relatively short period of time after Rose left, and he was still smarting from that pain.) It's quite unlikely, IMO, that she would have known of Donna if "her" Doctor were the 12th. I mean, does Donna know Mel? More to the point, did Rose know SJS until actually confronted by her? Did we hear about Katarina from the 3d Doctor or Adric from the 7th? Nah, I'm goin' out on a limb and sayin' she knows this Doctor, and whatever happens to Donna rocks him to his core at the same level Rose's departure did.
What excites me about this prospect is the possibility that the Tenth Doctor's regeneration might be one that is depicted as happening to an "aged" DT. That would be bloody fantastic, allowing for an immense world of storytelling possibilities with the 10th Doctor after DT leaves. Plus it would provide a nifty gap into which an older DT could return to the show as an older actor for a special. |

| On the silly side: After realizing that the anagrams of RIVER SONG don't spell anything interesting (although ROSE is in there), I am left trying to think of rivers that are also the names of songs.... So far I've got "Blue Danube"... |
