I don't think we have to worry about the Sci-Fi Channel. They have been good about airing the Christmas specials with little or no problem. |
|
They cut scads out of VOTD,though - including Astrid asking the Doctor if she could come with him (thereby sealing her fate as sure as a red-shirted crewman on Star Trek TOS)! |
|
True they may cut out some bits but at least they are airing it. Remember we thought that were never going to air "Doctor Who" at all(for a while). |
|
The problem is the location of the cuts only make sense to the execs. Between the cuts and comercials it is becomming increasingly unbearable to watch American Tele, and even more specifficaly British shows airing on American networks. Our local PBS station airs them properly (except during pledge breaks) but are even further behind in the series. If only there was a better model to follow, air time continues to cost more and therefore the quality and quantity goes down. Sad indeed. |

Well, it is BBC Worldwide that is supplying the episodes edited down to the approx. 42 minute runtime to North American commercial broadcasters. I'm not sure who at the BBC is doing the edit, but it is not SciFi (or the CBC). |

Even watching BBC is can be annoying - as a viewer you can see (hear) where the writer has repeated lines to take account of where the 'break' will be - even though there isn't a break (to us.)
To the Uk viewer this can look like sloppy writing (but for that knowledge)
Cheers, daveac

[Quote by: Tin Dog Podcast] V happy.
I get the feeling that it was a standard length script but more was shot than was needed and a long edit just worked well.

The more the better, you ask me. especially with the quality of the episodes this year.
My one criticism since the series came back has always been about epsiodes which haven't had enough time to develop naturally and satisfyingly.
With 42 minutes there is always the temptation to wrap up too quickly (that was my one and only problem with Midnight, for example). |

It's confirmed!!!
The final episode for the season ("journey's End") will be 65 minutes but there is aother point - the show will start at an earlier time in the UK - 6:40 as opposed to it's usual time.
I know many of you have issues with eairler showings so be forewarned and adjust your schedule accordingly.
The news is at this address on the BBC's "Doctor Who" website.

Forgive me for not making this a link, I have not figured out how to do it on this site. |

Thank you for making a link for me. I'll be glad once I figure out how to make a link on this site. My attempts have failed to date. |

I noticed on the news link that there was a trailer on at 1pm Monday on BBC One -- and it is now posted on the website.
Of course, being in the US, I cannot see the video. Can some nice Brit help a girl out? |

I can't wait for Saturday's final episode!!! I don't want to wish my life away but it's been years since I've been this fired up over a season of Who!!
In my eyes season 4 has been the best Tennent season so far. The best since season since 05 anyway as the Eccleston year was class also! |

OMG!
Davros has crossed the lines of cartoonish villany to insanity - to alter reality itself is the dream of a lunatic. |

Romana II -- THANK YOU!
Disappointed that most of the shots that didn't involve Davros were things we saw during Ep 12 (with the exception of Donna crawling on the ground!)
Still - super chilling! Thank God we've a holiday in the US on the 4th, now I can obsess over Saturday's viewing all day Friday without putting the job in jeopardy! |
